i agree with the fact that the corner is an accident waiting to happen.
i have seen so many people cock it up. they come in way to fast (trying to impress all the spectators on the containers) then over shoot it or fly off the berm.
last time i was there they had 2 guys with busted wrists sitting just above the berm being treated by the ambo's. maybe not the best place to be treating injuries?
could a simple solution be to build up the outside of the berm with tyres?
then get people waiting behind the gate before the next session starts?
Hmm I kind of a agree with Booom to be honnest. Not a nice accident, but you shouldn't stand next to the track. They have a veiwing platform built to watch the people ride. I think of it like all those nutty people who watch the rally at teh side of the road. Worst thing is that if she was probably not watching from a corner she would probably be fine and the rider would be the only person hurt.
Its one of those nasty accidents that will probably change things at ardmore so you can't stand around the track now, or there will be designated veiwing/photo spots.
Hope everyone gets well soon.
Booom your a dickhead, i saw the whole thing happen. No one could of got out of the way it happened so fast i almost couldn't believe what i saw. its no one fault just a really unfortunate accident I hope the girl gets better.
Hey yeh all motorcross tracks should be fenced by now thats a great idea see ya Ardmore, Harrisville, Ken Fells and just about any other motox track in New Zealand except Taupo and Whakatane. Yeah i agree not the best place to stand but got to admit we probably all have stood at that corner at some stage. I just had an issue of calling her a silly women.
Its proli not a bad idea to put some kind of fence up. And i would say pretty well everyone down there has stood on that corner i know i have. I didn't really think something like that could happen.
This is just a forum for us dirt bike jokers, I certainly don't want to criticise Boom, I'm sure he wasn't intending to be nasty in any way, but it might be worth doing a bit of a re-write on some of our comments, because after Scott has sent the emails, her family are quite likely to visit this site and read the posts. There's just no point in upsetting these poor folks... I'll re-write this to adjust for any changes to posts above
I was there that day and it was just a freak accident, I have never been a fan of the safety aspects of Ardmore period, but these things do happen and will continue to happen in the future, go to stock cars and you will see from time to time that cars go through fences and over them.
The chances of a bike cartwheeling over the safety fence at Ardmore after loosing it it up the face of the container jump is possible, keep that in mind.
I feel vulnerable standing on the side of the tracks myself taking pics with the PRO riders and know it is just a matter of time before I am hit, I can only hope it wont be as bad as this case. I see so many people standing on the sides of tracks not concerned about there backs at all, A prime example I see all to often is Champion Straight at Puke, those bike are hauling and when you are standing at the track edge and have your back to them, you have no idea what is coming through be it in or out of control, unfortunately these things wake us all up for a while.
Boom, your comment was totally uncalled for, it could have been your wife/sister/mother watching you, she had no time to move!
I agree with shane sorry. She is a young talented rider and it could of happened to anyone of us..
booom, your comment was totally out of line. I have sat at that corner many a time on my bike waiting to get on the track and it could have easily been me or any other rider for that fact that got collected.
Hope she makes a full recovery and gets back on her bike before too long.
nice edit 'husky125'
arent i just mr popular today....
it still boils down to the fact that it wasnt a safe place to be standing
ye but we've all stood there B000M but your probably right as well. I think the others have deemed your comments a bit harsh because she's still bloody sick and her parents would be very worried. So I think the timing was a bit off on your part. Its John Cobb that's probably gonna get it from officialdom for letting people stand there anyway, especially if she was just spectating rather than entering the track on her bike. I would guess they may see this as preventable, but who knows??? I go back to my earlier comments comparing MX to karting. You would never be able to spectate or enter a track on the outside of a corner, period.
From the other thread Scott posted for support letters it looks like the poor kids in a bad way. So lets move on and wish her and her family all the luck in the world!!!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!
'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '
