    Question Gixxer 1000 k6 q's

Hi, I recently purchased a k6 1000, unfortunately i didnt recieve the owners manual from the dude i gt it off. I just had a few questions about it, wondering if someone on here is able to help.

    1) How many k's to a tank of gas, just riding like an old man around town and highway

    2) How many k's can i travel once the reserve light comes on

    3) Helmet holders??? There seems to be a small hook above the point at which the clutch lever joins the bar, but this does seem like it was home made

    4) I am going to need a new set of tires for it shortly, for the above style of riding, an suggestions. I have to take into account the fact that ill be doing 80-100 up and down the wainuiomata hill each day, this has the councils "fast stop surface" on it, basically means that it halves the life of your rubber

    5) At what engine temp should i start to worry... It seems to reach 100 degrees rather easily, i assume that boiling point is not a good thing...

These are my questions for now, I was trying to find a current thread to add these to, but theres more than 1000 of them, and the search function did not help me too much.

    Thanks

    1) fuel mileage is relative what one person gets another person is total different, can vary per bike depends on mods etc

    2) thats relative as well, fuel light on try and full up with in 20-30kms max(could strech it futher, but when it comes on full up asap)

    3) Helmet holder will be under the rear seat, aka take seat off and be a hook under there.

    4) tires are personal perference, you can go for something sticky, but get less live, or go something harder, but not as sticky. Could always try something like Michelin Pilot Power (very popular tire). Also depends if you ride in all weathers, all year round. Other wise cheap second hand race tires could be a good idea too

    5) worry about things when it gets to 110, when does it get to that 100, around town? might pay to check that it has some antifreeze, in the radiator & bottle

    1, 220km

    2, 40km

3, it will be home made. helmet holder is under the rear cowl, its just a metal hook that you hook your helmet around, its on the side that cowl has the rectangular notch on

4, i found dual compound tyres are good for communting, while they do not last any longer than normal tyres, the softer outer edges of the tyre wear quicker than the middle, helping to maintain a roundish profile instead of squaring off.

5, 100 degrees is fine around town, the fan is not designed to kick in until 110 degrees, it should sit around 79 degrees on the open road

p.s nice bike, you will love it

Yea, I assume so. Its a large step up from my 250, but its what I need. I'm 6"2 and 105kgs. I'm not small. I ask the questions as I like to know everything about the bike.

The Suzuki has a nice comfort range. It could be ridden easily by most people, once you are used to the throttle response. Its easy to ride, I'm assuming that you have ridden one. The bike isn't going to go nuts unless i make it.

    Thanks for the answers guys.

I always let the SV get to about 30 - 35 before I starrted off down the road, dont know why I just did.

A ot of different theorys abot letting bikes warm up, a work to the principal that you let them warm up a little while stationary and then ride them gently untill up to full operating temp.

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

60 is good if you are going to jump on and thrash it, if you are in a hurry and are planning to take it easy for a couple of minutes you can get away with 40.

once moving it doesnt take long to get up to operating temperature.

You're going from your 250, to a Gixer Thou? Have you got insurance? Meaning life insurance?

I have an K2 thou, it's a little worked. I get about 140-150 k's from a tank. I get about 1000-1500 k's out of a rear. I ride M3's during the cold seasons, and I ride stickier nicer rubber during the summer, either Pilots, or conti attacks (which I love, but they're here for a good time, not a long time).

Helmet holder? Umm, I carry my lid with me. On my head, or in my hands depending on my location in reference to the scoot. I remove the pillion pegs and use the cover, unless I can talk Georgie into getting her pert bottom on the bitch pad.

Have you ridden something between the 1000 and the 250?

Temps - I don't move scoot until she hits about 70, if it takes forever to get there, you might need to look at the cooling system. Mine sits between 75-85 for normal riding, fan kicks in at 105/106 degrees.

There are a lot of really great bikes in the middle category - SV650's, Gixer6's, etc - once you start to get an understanding of the 1000, you'll likely want to trade down. I'm being really pragmatic, it's not a spanking or anything, but the k6's are a relatively quick scoot.
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

There are lots of theories. But I don't think waiting five minutes is a good idea.

IMO the best way to warm up an engine is to start riding it. Just keep things gentle until the temperature comes up.
