    MMMMM 2008 26-27 July

It's time again! the world famous Minginui-Matawai-Motu Midwinter Madness Ride is on 26-27 July.

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN START VENUE - Now the Rangitaiki Lodge, 30km out of Taupo on SH5, Northern side of the road.

This time I thought we'd do it the other way around for a bit of variety. The plan is to meet up at the Rangitaiki Lodge on the Napier-Taupo road. There is food, beer, camping (cabins booked out now sorry) there for those who want to arrive Friday night.

9am Saturday we'll leave the Lodge & head North along the Waipunga Rd across to highway 38 at Minginui then on through Waikaremoana, Frasertown, Tiniroto & a few backroads to my friend's farm, Journey's End Station, out the back of Matawai. We'll stay in the shearer's quarters which are quite modern & well appointed. FULL UP NOW SORRY! Any more starters will need to bring a tent, or could stay at the Matawai Pub, 30km further on.

On the Sunday we'll head out to Matawai for breakfast then off down the Motu Rd to Opotiki, then a couple more backroads & maybe some hot pools, then back to my place at Rotoiti. There are plenty of spare beds at Rotoiti for any travellers who want to stay the night before heading home.

Further details will be added to this post as we get more organised.

Remember this is a MIDWINTER ride. It may be cold & wet, in '06 we rode through snow, be prepared!

    Distances:

Taupo - Rangitaiki Pub - 35 km (no fuel)
Rangitaiki Pub - Te Whaiti - 75km (no fuel)
    Te Whaiti - Waikaremoana 70km
    Waikaremoana - Frasertown 50km
    Frasertown - Journey's End 150km
    Journey's End Station - Matawai 30km
    Matawai - Opotiki 75km

Calendar entry is up now, so please register on that if you are coming:

Right, I am definately in, I have permission from the higher authority, the whole nine yards!

I'm not around for the next 3 weeks so if I don't respond to anything just assume I'm still keen, OK?

The immediate cunning plan is take the friday to ride down the west coast, Raglan, kawhia, maybe Awakino then thru to Taupo for the friday night.

Thats it, I'm off to pack....

What do you mean "do my best" you WILL be there. It isn't a KB ride without the Triumph somewhere in the group!

Sounds good, Awakino pub is about there isn't it? There's some good roads between the west coast and te kuiti as well as the bits around Pureora etc.

I'm sure I can encourage that lazy hamitonian to drag fatty out too.....

Lets sort something out nearer to the time.

If we all speak nicely to Big Dave, he might grace us with his presence, but more importantly, flog a KTM690 for a weekend.

Cool! I can probably arrange secure vehicle/trailer storage in a mate's yard in Taupo for trailer-trash like you.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, Manbag carrying Jaffa Girlymen who won't sleep in anything less than perfumed silken sheets with rose petals sprinkled on the pillow can either HTFU & buy a sleeping bag or stay at the Matawai pub on the Sat night.

    Cheers
