    New type of licence?

If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

That's great news. It means if a car has a Maori Warrant and the axle fails in front of you causing you to crash you can claim money back from the Maori Parliament for issuing a warrant to an unsafe vehicle.

Similarly if a Maori licence holder crashes into you for being incompetent you can claim compensation from the Maori Parliament. You cousins and grandchildren will be able to do this also.

The Maori Parliament will then realise that with authority comes culpability....and a price....

Sorry to disappoint old bean but there's a Scotsman in charge of the UK now. And we aren't really that precious about it anyway since centuries of interbreeding means we're all pretty much part of the same people with the English, Irish, Welsh, Danish, French and Germans now. It's only the small minded europeans that still get uppity about it.

Have you been over to Europe? If you haven't you should go, you'd like it.

With all these technological advances since 1800, you'd at least think you'd learn how to fucking type.

Mate, I couldn't really care less what colour or creed you are. I do respect that as a Maori you are part of one of NZ's earlier settlers and for that the Maori are due some respect and consideration, especially considering the way the euro's treated the earlier Maori, but come on...is it not time that it was water under the bridge? NZ is made up of KIWI's now. The race segregation stuff is dangerous.(not insinuating that you are segregating between Maori & other, just that McJim has some points in what he is saying).
NZ is made of Kiwis all run by one government representative of everyone & everyone has the same basic rights of a good health system, their own culture (which you are right in defending; it is what makes Maori who they are) education, security & safety etc. . This should be celebrated as a different culture...but there are certainly no requirements fo any one people to have special priveledges....

Sorry mate I was being serious. Europe is a nice place.

I wasn't taking the piss with my original post either so I must confess that I am disappointed that you are getting the wrong end of the stick.

I suspect that the Maori WOF and licence is more of a political statement rather than a concerted atempt to make road travel safer. If this is true then I am, once again deeply disappointed. The licences, warrants and compliance enforced by the government of New Zealand on vehicles is not there to victimise any group but rather to ensure the roadworthiness of the public fleet of vehicles and the drivers who control them. When I find these regulations to be unsatisfactory I speak out. I have no idea of the rigour of the Maori WOF and licences and I merely pointed out that if they were not raised with appropriate rigour to ensure safety on the public highway then the issuing authority should be prepared to face the consequences of wielding this power.

Why has this caused you offence?

I think that the main thing you are saying that is worth noting, is the comment on culpability. A government (or any authority for that matter) needs to be held to account for its actions. Something that this current government still has not yet learnt.
