Thread: Vigilante groups in South Auckland

  1. #16
We had this on Waiheke Island in the early '90's.The Night Owls patrolled at night, but could only wag their finger at the naughty boys until the Cops appeared....which they never did of course. So then the Night Eagles came into force, some of them prominent businessmen - they had baseball bats and dealt out justice on the spot.Waiheke Island is now a desirable place to live - maybe South Auckland could do the same.....

It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Its only "bad" when the cops refuse to go there at night (if at all). Although definitely seems to be heading that way...

As I see it, there's a killing to made here (bad pun! go sit in the corner) by someone starting up a private security company. Not sure what the regulations are here (in NZ), can private security personnel carry any form of weapon (pepper, batons, etc)? I'm guessing not... but it was fun to imagine my own cash-cow private mercenary squad for a while.

Oh yes, a leg slap at least, then fines, PD, to prison.

I hear you. The difficult part is the police aren't able to be "everywhere" and to a lesser extent "anywhere"...
By the time they show up, the crime has been committed. Perhaps we do need more police back walking the beat, getting to know the community and showing a presence.

Like the fact that most cops cruise the streets with a speed gun in one hand and I don't know what the other hand is doing...?
I mean in terms of keeping speeding to a minimum the cops do a really good job!

[COLOR="Red"] Maybe ... if everyone united in assisting to change the culture of the environment of the area that perhaps the end result being 'crime' would actually start to deminish.

There is a crime factor in every environment but seems to be more so in the lower economic societies especially South Auckland. You do not have to look far to see Bottle Stores, Fast Food Outlets, Pokie & Gambling Outlets, Fast Loan & Quick Cash Sucker Schemes that keep the community burdened & in poverty.

Yes everyone has choices I know that, but do they need to continuously be bombarded with these shackled convienences that actually do nothing to remedy the situation.

There are amazing people who work tirelessly to combat poverty, educate and inspire others to live to thier upmost potential but the battle is endless against drugs, alcohol and disempowerment.

I feel the Vigilanti Groups are warranted , I do not condone them but I also do not live in South Auckland either and when the Police are outnumbered, overworked & underpaid and unable to assist what other options are there? It of course, is going to open the flood gates to the underworld probably more than we actually realise but its not the Asians Vigilanti Groups that got it to this stage is it. Time to look at our Governments past & present, and also our own attitudes about what we give rise to & accept within our own communities.

In the mean-time I would support more security guards & community police helps be used while more effective solutions are initiated.
