There is that road top of Queen St, left at K Rd, it's next on the left but has a no left turn. Got to come to it from Symonds St. Ferk always wondered what it would be like to take a person who didn't know of it over it on a bike as fast as you dared. Comes out by the old Harmony house area I think.

Easy stupid thing, everyone will do - sometime

Reverse your bike down a steep hill or driveway, driveway in my case, turn the steering to end up parallel to the slope and end up over balancing & having to put your foot down on the downhill side to hold the bike up.
Shite.... over I went it seemed like I put my foot in a deep hole, there is no way you can hold the bike up.
The bike is near horizontal before the foot hits the pavement, and moving towards it fast.
Boy did I feel like a dick, lucky only the neighbours wife was watching.
I tried to make out this was normal and I did it often. No way again for this cowboy.

I know the exact road you mean, A mate that lived in Auckland took me over that at about 100k in a Mk2 Escort 1600 sport.
It was the night of the David Bowie Serious Moonlight concert at Western Springs, '83 or '84, Damn its a fright when you arent expecting it.

Pulling up to a set of lights at red and stopping the bike with great balance before leaning left slightly before placing my left foot down only to discover my shoe laces tied round the gear lever boy did i feel a tit trapped under the bike for a while before pulling my foot out of my shoe ,pickin the bike up with my shoe tied to the bike then rode off in my sock just to get away with the shoe trailing behind me........

Tried to show the boys what a hero I was by jumping on my TT500 outside the pub and kickstarting it in one movement, fell off the bike on the other side, skin full of piss, large crowd watching, Dented pride.

    1. Rode the 1953 Ariel 350 home after a party......where I had partaken somewhat. Spent fifteen minutes kicking the shit out of it and wondering why it wouldn't start..eventually remembered I had pulled the plug lead off to prevent "unauthorised useage"...got home (somehow - don't remember that bit) and stalled it crossing the gutter.....tried to kick start it - ground came up from the left hand side and hit me in the side of the head....WTF???....got up, picked the bike up (with a crane - it was a HEAVY bike) and tried again on the kick start, being careful not to lean too far left....this time the ground came up from the right.....repeat pickup procedure and try yet again to start. SUCCESS! Roared down the driveway and into shed, clipping door on way in and wondering why the lights were dicky.....found battery upside down on the footpath outside next morning - all the acid had run out and burned an impressive hole in the tarseal.....nursed headache all day....

    2. When racing the Benelli 250 at Ruapuna in mid 70's, had to navigate an oil spill from the previous race (Castrol corner it was in those days - sweeper before the straight). During pre-race inspection, thought I could see a line INSIDE the spill..."snigger snigger nobody else will think of that" Second lap, running a close second, decide to take the "inside line" at about 100kph - other dude too chicken to try it....found that the "clear line" wasn't clear at all - just where they had not bothered to cover the oil with anything, thinking that nobody would be stupid enough to try to cut inside the spill....errrrr wrong guys! Discovery of the day - takes a long time to slow down enough to stand back up at that speed...........
