You have confirmed my opinion of you . Speed, per se, does not kill , lack of ability and lack of sufficient training before issuing a license sure does.

"CAUTION IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR SKILL"

Until you and the powers that be get your/their head around this very fundamental fact nothing will change and people will die needlessly. On a personal note, I don't care. I will not be statistic in this arena.

I just love their bullshit slogan "drive to the conditions, if they change reduce your speed" So ok, in that case it's raining so I'm doing 80 in a 100 zone, then the sun comes out and roads dry up so I am sposed to slow down ? complete crap. They just try to have a cover-all slogan that obviously doesn't cover all. There are plenty of times it is safe to do over 100

Even if they introduce an intensive training session for ALL motorists prior to being permitted to commute on the public roads they WILL NOT allow people to travel faster than the "arbitrarily" chosen figure for that area ... 50 70 100 kmph ...

I would be a happy little biker if i knew that all around me were people with sufficient training in their vehicles around me whilst i ride around on the roads. Accidents would decrease, as would road fatalities, which would be fantastic ... HOWEVER they will never increase the speed limits on our roads ... ever ...

a prime demonstration of this is the smoking legislation in place (im a smoker btw) cant smoke in work, or in a pub, have to pay more for them, and get taxed through the a$$ for buying them. Thousands of pages worth of research tells us that smoking does kill, yet they still sell them to the general public (18+ of course) ... wouldnt it be cheaper in the long term to ban smoking out right, thus saving lives and reducing strain on an already stretched health system?

so in the end, regardless of your skill and views on "what speed i want to ride/drive at" you might as well get used to riding within those arbitrary limits if you dont want to pay tickets ...

    Poos

Its been very warm for Christchurch today - I went on a mid/late afternoon ride to Little River - I had the best of intentions of a quiet cruise.

BUT - it just turned out to be one of those days when it all clicked and I was just buzzing. Consquently a law or two may have been broken

I'll add roof racks to my list.

I purchased the Hornet to slow down ........

I was thinking the same thing.

Ambo's and some fire apliances have had low pro flashing lights for a while now, they are more of a digi-LED type light I think. Much more powerful and direct than the older versions. Police must have had a new budget or somthing, my guess is its something they will phase in with new cars.

IMO they look pretty damn cool , well on the ambos anyway.

I don't carry a camera with me and if I did ever get handed a phone with a camera in it I'd take to the lens with screw driver.

Just trying to be a community minded biker.

You guys just keep bitching at each other and calling people liars. Seems to give you all some sort of perverse kick.

Mistakes lead to accidents. Speed worsens the outcome.

No, and the reason why is fascinating.

Imagine you quit smoking right now and added fifteen years to your life. Now, these would be the fifteen years where you're sitting in a rest home watching telly and video conferencing your grandchildren - in other words the years where you drain resources out of the world at great speed, including getting a pension.

Fifteen years of pension is a whole shitload of money. If a couple of hundred thousand people can cark it fifteen years earlier, that's several hundred thousand shitloads of money which rapidly becomes enough to change government policy.

Banning smoking outright would cost us, the Kiwi taxpayer, a fucking fortune. Which would mean a raise in taxes. Which would be the current government not getting elected back in, not to mention all the fumingly angry smokers.
