I don't know the name of the hill.... but the road you're on as you're going up it is Okoia Rd.

the road to the left after gordons bush is the bit of road where i first hit 100k. did all my high speed basic learning out that way.
used to ride it on my push bike too when we lived over east. we lived on durie hill when i was a kid, and wed take the bikes out that way, out okoia and home again. i remember going down the hill i got chased by a bull in a bordering paddock.
great bit of road. love the hill, cept for the time i was about to head down on the motorbike and met a logging truck coming up!

Can't really judge the capabilities of the camera when reduced down to youtube levels, The raw footage is pretty fuzzy, colours are off, road signs are unreadable, artefacts and distorted images are common, And the audio was unusable.

The mounting system was so poor I had to pack the clamp and then secure the entire set-up with duck tape, when the camera wobbles it creates a distorted picture.

Plus a large bump will cause it to stop recording and make any file being reordered corrupt.

That aside, It came out all right and cheers for the positive comments.

Ten times better than my pathetic attempts with an Oregon camera. I have the same problem with shut down and loss of data.
(I've subscribed to your vids - if you want a laugh you should check out the bumpy shit I've had to put up with.)

how much did the set up cost you, banger? im dying to get a mounted camera on my bike for when im touring... i havent mastered taking photos while riding and unable to see the screen on the back, lol. i think i wouldnt have as much vibration as you, even though there is some.

Seeing as I was asked, The video I posted at the start of this thread was done with an Oregon Scientific, Its a self-contained water-proof camera, I personally wouldn't recommend one, But if you are willing to live with its faults then it maybe the one to buy.

I see they are available locally for $200 new.

All the rest of my videos are done using gear from http://www.helmetcamera.com/acart/agora.cgi

I was running it all through a JVC DV camera, But in the interest of cutting down the amount of gear we lug around, and to simplify the process of using the footage (my oldboy owns half the set-up and refuses to have anything to do with capturing the footage from DV to PC) I purchased the DVR camera they are now selling as part of the package.

Its good in that its small, Quality takes a hit as its compressing on the fly but its still light years ahead of the Oregon Scientific, The big negative is it uses a codec that simply can't be worked with so it needs to be re-encoded toi be edited, Which is a damn shame.

anyway, I done another video yesterday using the new camera, Though I forgot to plug in the microphone so again there is no audio....But there is more low-rent rock n roll.




Its classic NZ back-roads, Herds of cows, I thought one of those bastards was about to kick me, shit on the road, gravel patches.....A view of the sea.

When the weather clears I plan to do that loop again and ensure I get the audio....
