when your clip ons break off in the middle of nowhere it lets u get decent size spanner on the triple clamp so u can ride home steering with the spanner. without that indentation it would be too difficult.

It's Suzuki's way of making the bikes cheaper by leaving out a bit of the tank, also costs less to fill and makes it a bit lighter.

The indentation on your tank has a very practical use which I am surprised that no one has told you of before... it is your speeding / parking infringement ticket tray. this is almosy correct it is in fact were you keep ypur note pad handy use you can make quick note of all the faults and bit that fall off your Suzuki has it hapens as long term memory is something most suxuki owners lack according to owners hand book.
