For those about to move DON'T.All great plans of mice and men as they say,had plans to start move about 6.00am from Hawera to Palmerston Nth(165km).Packed up one truck with heavy stuff,left fridge and 2 q/s beds till morning thinking simple chuck em on and go.Nah one look in the shed at 8.00pm night before,bit of junk alright,sorted it out and loaded most of it,also had bbq,mower and a bit more crap.Left about 8.30am,got to Bulls for coffee,and onwards to pick up keys,start shift into house with heavy shit,thought should be gone by 12-1.00pm,finished about 2.00pm.Trucks needed to be back around 4.30-5.00pm which they were,but the weather was ok.

Darkness and thought stuff it leave bike till Sat or Sun.Back to fix leak in a shower for tennants and fininsh garage clean up,bring bike back,woohoo.Weather was getting progressively windy as time to leave,go to fire bike up,prime then start cool fires up then flooded it,go to garage for jumper leads and away I go.

Great day as cool and little rain,wind was tricky for inexperianced me,sat on 110-120km and not bad,thought get passed Waverley and inland to Wanganui should be good,through Maxwell and Kai Iwi was good twisty,Wanganui then to Bulls for Subway and warm up,onto Palmy with the wife behind me in car and doing 120km and she had radar and behind me,was happy for her to be in front lol.

Palmerston appears in sight cool,longest ride to date and toughest conditions riden in.Not a perfect day to ride but makes you feel alive riding,can understand why we do it,euphoria of beating the elements during a ride is the fun.

So, what was the problem? Your tale didn't seem that bad. Yes, shifting is always much more of a mission than you expect. I've done it...hmmm...nine(!) times myself, and a few times for my mother and sister), but mostly without too much drama. One of those shifts was Hamilton to Christchurch, one Christchurch to Tauranga, and one Tauranga to D'Auckland. We survived.
If you have to move, you have to move.
The big thing is: it's a handy-dandy time to rid yourself of all your crap. My mother's moved 6 times (including once across the road, where she got the movers to load the truck with her stuff, rather than carry it, because she didn't want her stuff "paraded in front of the neighbours.."). She's still got some stuff from her first house, that should've gone to the tip. She's also had rubbish (broken stuff) moved each time, now her garage is full of her crap, and assorted crap my sister and two ex-brothers-in-law dumped there.

When you move, be ruthless: don't move stuff that you can manage without.

And if you foresee moving again pack boxes in such a way that there are a whole lot that you can get away with not unpacking

Moved hundreds of times...the worst was a relocation from Welly to New Plymouth with a 2 month old baby....NOW THAT SUCKED!

SUCKED even more that when we got there we had no family or friends and most everyone we met were snobby cunts....very very lonely time that was.

Everything got walked out the front and into the new place. "Why box anything up - just walk it next door".

Sympathise mate, moved 12,000 miles last year, no going back for stuff eh.

One little point mr ynot, why was I not informed of this move, nobody tells me anything I had plans to scoot down and see you in the summer, yet you move further away. Overkill mate,the doc says my diseases will be cleared up in a couple of months, no need to run dude.

Oh well enjoy your new life mate, catch ya out there.

Well !! I've been called a lot of things but never a cnobby sunt, you moved out to soon my cyber besty, ya should have stuck around for the martybabe invasion. Yer right though it's bloody hard without yer fam and friends in a new place.

Had a few of you Taranaki KBers say that...pity I wasn't cruising the Net back then! I really could've done with some cool mates up there to visit and talk crap with, would've helped us all actually.

Moving - a time to rid yourself of all the crap gathered.....

Moved from South Africa to Auckland, 40 foot container....
5 tears later, moved Auckland to Darwin, 40 foot container - with different crap!

Ah well, life is good and the red cross and salvos appreciate our regular contributions!

"Yeah ditto mate,seems to have shit loads of time,then spend 2 weekends looking at homes to rent here,trying to sell ours,organising tennants and crap weather so no riding or time.
Mind you the roads here seem to lead anywhere,not like the Naki where you almost need to return via road left on,except maybe Forgotten H/way as a loop,or the good ol round the mountain.
Actually considering the weather we were extremely lucky with rain not appearing whilst loading or unloading,just made getting the bike down an experiance,fun but tricky winds."

Yep agree with you,am going out with a few from work this Friday for farewell drinks etc for the lady I replace,so good to meet few folks.

My house is unconditional Monday or maybe tomorrow, it's been on the market since March. Each time I shift some fat gets cut, last time I only had one small 3? tonne truck load. Amazing the things you don't really need that just never gets unpacked.

This time I'm ditching the couch, bed, wasing machine, lawnmower, fridge and few things on TM or storing them (indian giving) if they don't go.

Things that are I'm keeping to eventually take to OZ if it's worth it. TV, Projector, bike, 3x PC's, videogame collection.
