I'm away next two weekends so I won't be there either.
    Cheers

has anyone got any ideas on a reasonably safe rout to take with our current weather woes?
I'm dieing to go for a ride, am not worried about the bad weather as long as it's safe, but don't want to tackle the Rimatakas in the current adverse weather situation.
I was thinking of heading up the Levin way, but I know that road was pounded the other day. Do you think it would be to gusty and dodgey on the weekend?

head into town and go around the bays. its a nice ride and pretty sheltered.
We normally head in to oriental bay and have a coffee at the caravan then follow the
    Coast around to island bay.

Cool man, I'm thinking a bit longer then that though. Do you think the way up highway one is to dodgey in the this weather?

not really dodgey but it can get a bit boring and when its raining it can get old pretty quick.
whitemans valley is another option if you want a bit longer

having looked at google maps.. I say looks cool, but may wait for better weather to explore whitemans. I think I need to stick to main roads as i don't know the area the best, and hopefully won't get caught out by any dodegy corners

I heard Whitemans Valley got more inundated than many places with flooding and shit. It might pay to stay out of there until things dry up a bit.

At the risk of being labelled offensive and grumpy, FFS lad, the only way to get experience is to ride your bike. All the experience you can get is to be got with arse plonked on seat. Spend too much time listening to people expostualting over the inherent dangers of motorcycling and you'll never get out of your driveway.

The weather for Sunday looks mild and settled with no rain. The Rimutaka road is a road. It's not a bogey man, it isn't going to steal your undies.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Hmmm must be a different weather channel than what I read two seconds ago on metservice .. which says showers with nor-westers ... but you are right about the takas ... but there is no point in riding on something that you have in your mind already freaked yourself out over. Ride it in your own time when you are ready .. and not just when someone tells you not to shit yourself over it. That is when you will know it is just another road.

Going for a fang around the bays is a good ride ... nice corners but still a bit of challenge to it ... much better than your driveway ... I wish I could come but am bucketing in brooklyn that day.

I always made it home with my undies intact. Slightly soiled once or twice but fully intact none the less.

Riding to Levin and back won't give you much added cornering confidence IMHO. The Wairarapa is where it's at, there's a small hilly thing to cross in order to get there tis all.

    Seriously, I give up.

    You win Kari.

    Ciao.

Hay James, I'm more keen for a ride then a challenge this weekend, I rode rimitakas once, I will again, but for now would rather do it in the dry, call me chicken shit but I'd rather go for a blat and enjoy myself then be worried about riding something challenging in the weather. As for the boring ride to Levin, Thats ok Like I said I just wanna go for a ride to relax, the kind of riding for a stress relife then a adrenillin rush.
Cornering can wait for a day I feel like going for a blast. I was more wonding about the coastal rode and it's dodgeyness as I beleive it had been closed this week.

Levin was a funish ride. If you dont mind just cruising and not tipping into every corner.
The roads seemed sweet as well, Water looks pretty rough though lol.
