No times in 15 yrs, then once in the last 6 months for speeding on the open road(Monday afternoon, no one there, wide open 3 lanes) outside of Rotten Rua.Was going to get away from the stench!
Poor old Mr Plod was happy I stopped for him, still gave me the ticket for 120K's,I argued that shes an old bike and my speedo said 112 but he wouldnt budge, was a time, that this was a stern talking too on the side of the open road, no one about and see you later.
not anymore, Ah huh another scalp for my ticket book, wont the boss be impressed.
Every day above ground is a good day!:

In the last 2 years I have been stopped three times at checkpoints, and have had the red and blues flashed at me twice to remind me to check my speed! for which I have been very grateful

    I need a bigger bike....

I have never been stopped on my bike. Once I was waved through a check point at Maraetai Beach but that's it. Only ever been breath tested once and that was in a cage.

Limit is 100, so your $120 for 20k over aint bad... Learners exceeding 70 is a $400 fine.
So.... Just out of curiousity, can you get the 400 hundy for not abiding by the conditions of licence and the $xxx for exceeding speed limit by 20 km/h, or is it 400 hundy for the licence and $xxx+ for exceeding speed limit by 50 km/h???, or alternatively, just the 400 hundy for not abiding by the licence conditions and no further repercussions (would prefer the legal, asshole cop and nice cop answers) cheers

A rarity in these cash-grabbing days. Lucky you.

Don't get stopped at checkpoints. They tend to wave me through.

But I think if you ride enough ks for enough years you will be ticketed eventually.

Firstly the 70kph restriction is a loud of bollocks. I don't see what could possibly be considered safe about a learner bike rider being restricted to 70kph while on 100kph roads and having cattle trucks and all manner of other traffic tailgating them because they are legally stuck at that speed.

However, if you get nabbed for exceeding the 70kph restriction the correct fine is for breaching the condition of your licence, $400. If you get issued a ticket for exceeding the speed limit in these circumstances but your actual speed was less than the posted speed limit then I would defend it. If you got caught doing in excess of 100km/h you would then be liable for both the licence breach (+70kph - $400) and for exceeding the posted speed limit (100kph - $$$ depending on how far over you are).

On the bike ..Never, In the cage over the last 15 years driving it would be about 50-60 times generally just rego warrant checks or the old "someone that fits your description was seen (insert crime here)" , doesnt help that I lived in a small town but I would get pulled up at least twice a day, it was pretty much just the local coppers way of letting us know we are being watched (we were all hoons at some point), I didnt actually get a ticket until I moved to Auckland in '03 then i got 3 speeding tickets in 3 months , got a radar detector after that and never had a problem since

That's cos no cop in its right mind wants to stop a kilt wearing rider...*"put it way, put it away", they cried!

I can only give my data-points in relation to cages, because, well, I haven't got on the road with a bike, yet, but ...

I have been pulled over precisely twice

first was well after hours on a restricted license, although a cop never checked. He'd seen me pull out of a petrol station, without my lights on ( after dark) , and followed me down the road a little. No ticket but a "please check that your lights are on in future"

second was after doing a U turn at traffic lights ( without no u - turn signs up ), to get to a petrol station. Cop followed me into the petrol station and indicated a come here to me. He told me that I wasn't allowed to do a u-turn at traffic lights, and that this was in the road code and was saying he'd send me an infringement in the mail.

The infringement notice never turned up, and I did look though the road code, and didn't find it, so, I'm of the option that that cop, was just being a dick that day. oh well.

I just hope that the rest of his life got better from there

    Legal:

$400 for exceeding 70kmph on a learners licence. Speed limit is still 100kmph so doing 120kmph is a speeding ticket for 20kpmh over the limit. You will not be ticketed for 50kmph over the 70kmph learner restriction...

    Nice cop:

Up to the cop on if he gave you both, or one, or told you off.

    Arsehole cop:

Hello Mr Peasea... Here is your ticket for the highest speed you were doing, another for the time I didn't stop ya, another for the time I warned ya but now changed my mind, exceeding the 70k limit on ya learners, smokey vehicle, worn tyres, number plate displayed incorrectly, faulty light, impeding traffic, wasting Police time, careless use, dangerous use, and one for doing 120 exceeding the 70k limit by 50kmph on ya learners, so you are now suspended and walking from here... coz it will be funny to see his face change through all the possible colours of red fury... and the froth at the mouth...
