Perhaps they did. Only time will tell if the boy racers come back.

The threat was that this was an ongoing recurrance and as such your comments that they were no longer posing any threat is incorrect. If it had been a 'oneoff' then your point may have some validity. It was not and therefor does not.

yes he was an idiot for running a car off the road, that was dumb,

dragging the kid out of the car however.....meh, society IS very soft now, if people are that upset about this little cretin getting a fright, whoopty shit, there's a ton of stories from the past of farmers dealing to theives etc, nothing happened but a lesson learnt. yes it's hard to regulate what is and isn't stepping over the line at times, and everyones opinion is different, (so no crucification for having an opinion please 'left wingers'!) I just think that sometimes society acting out against crime is a good thing, as long as it's not necessarily condoned but the actions judged and dealt with accordingly, not just a lynch mob of people defending the pricks who started the trouble in the first place.
Mr Anderson chased a kid in a car, ran him off the road & dragged him through the window, then beat the crap out of him, this 'gentleman' is the problem !The 'Boi Racer' has obviously laid a complaint & will in all likelyhood win an assault charge against Mr Anderson.
This paragon of virtue has already lost his licence & is currently suspended for his own misdeeds. What gives him or anyone like him the right to judge the 'boi racer' & hand out penalties ??? He is no better than the 'boi racer' himself & is definatley old enough to know better.

Are you really advocating vigilante justice, reckless driving, assault and threatening to kill as appropriate behaviour? Bear in mind these actions weren't to prevent the man's daughter almost knocked off (not knocked off, but almost, so nothing actually happened to her) but to enact retribution against the person he considered might have previously been a threat to his daughter's safety.

If he and the other 'concerned neighbours' were actually dealing with a real problem then there is a very simple step they could take to get the boy-racers dealt with; use a video camera and record what was going on. Lay a complaint at the Police station against the drivers and present the video as evidence. Cops love busting boy-racers; presented with clear video evidence, they'd have had the licences removed in no time.
Parents do things in defence of their children. The man acted in a manner that he deemed necessary to prevent any further occurance of danger to his child. This may or may not be his prime motive for his actions but untill I hear otherwise I 'll support his action whatever that may be in defence of his child.

    Hmmm...

As hypocritical as it might sound I have no tears at all for the boy-racer who got into trouble. Actually I'm pretty glad that he was taught a lesson about what is acceptable and what is not.

On the other hand I hope that the vigilante shall receive the appropriate charges for his conduct and a fair trial. That could serve as a lesson about what is acceptable and what is not, too.

Two wrongs doesn't make a right - pretty simple isn't it?
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

well I wasn't aware he beat the shit out of him, I just thought he dragged him out and yelled at him......yeah thats definately stepping over the line, and yes I did mention that it's a shame that he has lost his licence and I do think that it's pretty hypocritical that he is the one taking this action after losing his own licence for speeding of all things, so not exactly a 'white knight', however I think the kid is being a bit of a wuss (im sure his 'beating' was nothing of the sort), he is also the problem, not just said mr anderson, and I think personally that it should have ended on the spot, none of the assault charge rubbish (unless he truly was given a hiding)- read my earlier post where I talk of what happened to me, nothing happened afterwards and I actually did learn a lesson.

    erm
only if you believe that speeding is as bad as driving recklessly, demolishing other people's fences and lawns and endangering their 8 year olds

let he/she who has NEVER been done for speeding cast the first stone!!

well nowhere does it say that he actually beat the shit out of him at all ... i guess ppl are assuming as he dragged him out thru the window then he obviously followed that up with a beating of epic proportions ...

I am not condoning vigilntism, however having made quite a few phone calls to the lads in blue myself in complaint of boy racers doing burnouts outside my kids room at 1am i am yet to see any actual decline in burnouts. It frightens my kids, obviously waking them up, and annoys the shit outta me cause i gotta get outta bed to call the cops.

I ask Jrandom and James Duece what i should do to stop this crap going on outside my house every weekend ... cause im getting pretty damn close to following the example set by messers Anderson and Murray ... i have a car in the garage that i dont use anymore, so im thinking about installing a top rank restraint system, and ramming the little fuckers right in the act!!!

and yes i have taken a video in and made a constable sit through 45 minutes of burnouts and crying kids ...

I know I'm probably missing something huge, here, but have you considered throwing a coat on, going out into the road, waving down the boi racers and telling them that they're disturbing your family, and would they kindly fuck off and play somewhere non-residential?

Forget threats and violence; I've always found that a spot of verbal judo can be surprisingly effective in such situations.

I'm a little tired of NZ society's ape-like attitude toward interpersonal violence. Annoyed at someone else's behaviour? Ram their car, hand out a bash, all quite acceptable.
