I was quite amazed by a boi ricer several hours ago. Us normal plebs were waiting to turn right at a give way (T junction) when this retard with a baby-seat in the passenger seat, goes up the inside then turns right, in front of the rest of the queue, carves up the traffic coming from the left, and "doof-doof's" off up the road...

There is no obligation on the part of the driver to explain the reason that it was unsafe to stop.

However you must be clear of the intersection by the time that the light turns red. If you have not cleared the intersection then you have run a red light and get ticketed and rightly so.

One other thing that many do not know' it is 'unlawfull' to enter an intersection even on a green light 'untlil' that intersection is clear. In effect both vehicles are at fault if there is a crash on a controlled intersection.
    :
Dead right about the first one...you should just say " I didn't believe I had time to stop officer" If the officer says something like " you must have been going too fast" say..."Anything is possible but I didn't believe I had time to stop" If he says "I think you did" etc you say......well you get the idea

Pretty sure the offence is "entering the control zone" not being in it nor exiting it. ie if the light isn't red when you cross the limit line you did not run a red

And that last paragraph is a widely held misconception... You may not enter an intersection if your exit is blocked by STATIONARY traffic. This is why you can enter the intersection if your intention is to turn right and there is still traffic coming straight through...however only one vehicle may do this at a time or else the exit is blocked by stationary traffic(the vehicle in the front)

Remember a roundabout is an intersection...

Just read my own post..it looks like I condone red light running..I don't.

However everyone should make it their business to know the law and stick to it. (and stand up for yourself)In MOSTcases the law makers wrote it the way it is for a reason.

I hate red light runners......in a previous job I gave an Auckland bus driver a ticket for doing it. He had a bus load of passengers at the time...actually ended up forbiding him to drive for 4 hours because he was clearly too angry to safely continue. One of his lines was " I always run red lights so I can keep on time"

Rastuscat good on you for the job you do. We hear time and time again about cops being revenue collectors etc etc while the plain majority of us wouldnt step in and do what you do for quids. I can bet that almost (not 100%) but almost, every ticket you write is argued by the "innocent & expert" driver you have inconvenienced.

KB is a great place for venting and most of us on here are supportive of good cops doing a good job. Thanks for doing what you do
