Hmm, this thread's been a bit quiet lately.

I thought I'd try to get along tomorrow and see who else turns up. Don't wait for me though; 10am is always a struggle ...

Well, I havent been for a sunday ride for quite a while, so as I was staying in Carterton for the next few weeks, and the Great weather we had today, I took a ride to Eketahuna, met mate, then we took the back roads to the Gladstone pub for a drink and a feed. It was packed with bikes of all types... I hope this weather continues....

If you haven't found it yet already, you HAVE to take the Mauriceville road between Masterton and Eketahuna. It goes the other side of Mt Bruce and is one of the best crusining roads we've found. You get to it by taking the bypass road out of Masterton until you get halfway along the big long straight and find "Loop Line" on your right (just b4 the vineyard). Take that to SH2, go left for 300m, then turn right onto the Mauriceville Rd and just keep going until it signals Eketahuna.

Well that was a bit more than I intended ... I left home at 11, obviously too late to meet people at 10 ... headed over the hill thinking I'd go to Masterton, and if I felt keen, through the gorge and back down the coast.

Except that at Woodville, I felt a bit too ambitious, and turned right for Napier, and SH5 through to Taupo.

    13 1/4 hours and 914km later, I'm home. Sleepy time, I think.

Did that too earlier in the year, except stayed the night in Dannivirke on the way up. Great roads they are too. Will do it again sometime.

Yep, main road, on the left as you come up from Featherston.
Its near The Tapas Lounge and Istanbul restaurant.
