A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
Bowls can wait !
Thanks for clearing that up......I'm going to put it in my Sig to avoid confusion.
In regard to the licence carrying question, in the UK the official rules were to carry your licence at all times but if you didn't have it then it was no big problem as you could just produce it later at any station. I'd like to know if the procedure is the same here or can you get a fine for not having it with you.
@ Sinful, Yes i have a full UK licence and been riding for 7-8 years. I am getting it converted whenever I get around to making it to the AA shop.

Yep...must carry at all times when using a vehicle. And it must be for the correct class of vehicle too. Class 1 is ordinary car, van, truck or camper under 4500kg. You can ride a moped on a car licence (moped is under 50cc and under 2.5kw?). But for any bike over that you need a Class 6 licence.
If you fail to produce a valid licence at the roadside, you get a fine and usually banned from driving/riding away. NZ did have the same as you are used to (produce within 7 days etc) but that's long gone.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
Thats quite harsh! Im going to have to fold it up and seal it in something otherwise its going to get quite manky and torn. Lucky I have a glovebox on the bike to keep it in when riding haha
anything else I should know about the plod in regard to bikes?

TOP QUOTE: “The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.”
Can you get it laminated? Cheap and effective. And keep it in your pocket/wallet. What if you go out in a car...and there it is, at home in your bike...ooops.

Id love to, so when they try to write speeding points on it I can just wipe it off afterward hahahaha.....
Thats my main issue! they give you a plastic card and a counterpart, so you would logically think you can just use the plastic as it stays safe in your wallet! Oh no thats too logical for them. Its guaranteed Ill leave it in the other vehicle when i actually get pulled over.

I got stopped on my 650 with a class 6L and got sent home - no ticket. Put it back in the shed, son.
THEN, I get stopped in my car coz it has the kids Learner plates on it and I'm the only driver.(it looks like I'm an unsupervised learner dunnit)
Can I see your license son, er, old fella ? "Uh, I left it in my bike jacket, officer."
"But you do have a license, dont you?" "Yes sir, oh the L plates, just dropped my learner son off at soccer."

"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
"Wow, Great advise there DB."

Ah *understands*
Welcome to kiwi-land AndyOnTheFlyingBrick. There goes me assuming you're a kiwi (who should know that - having to carry your license was pretty well advertised when they changed that) xD.
We have pretty decent government department websites here, so check out the LTSA site I linked to. It'll have full descriptions of what all the classes are here, what the restrictions for various licenses are, what you need to get licenses, how much everything costs etc etc.
The roadcode's up here:
http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/roadcode/
...and for a more in-depth view of all NZ road law, you can always peruse the NZ Legislation website (but yeah, it's slower going):

Mate & I got stopped in PioPio a while back for a license check,we have both had them for well over 20 years. Copper said you would be suprised how many riders do not have one so they had started targeting license checks
Hay Andy you can get your kiwi one now as they just changed the system
Do I have to sit any tests?
All drivers must know the road rules, what the road signs mean and how to drive safely. Learning the road rules is particularly important because of New Zealand's unique 'give way' rule (when you are turning left, you must give way to vehicles that are coming from the opposite direction and turning right). You can find out more about this rule and others in The official New Zealand road code
.
Some countries require similar driving skills and have similar licensing systems to New Zealand's. Depending on the country you have come from and the class of licence you are converting, you may not have to sit theory and/or practical tests. Other countries may have driver licensing systems that are very different from New Zealand's. People from these countries do have to sit both theory and practical tests.
Theory test?
You do not have to sit the theory test if:
you have a licence from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States of America, and
your licence is current (or has expired less than 12 months), and
you are converting a car or a motorcycle licence.
You do have to sit a theory test if:
you have a licence from a country not listed above; or
you are converting a heavy vehicle licence from any country.
Practical test
You do not have to sit the practical test if:
you have a licence from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States of America, and
your licence is current (or has expired less than 12 months), and
you have held that licence for more than two years.
