Don't bother, put your money into an RGV or RS instead, the TZRs are essentially time bombs when worked like they should be. Not what you want to hear, but less long term pain.

    hey bro-

all i can say is that you are in luck for the 3ma... shitloads of options and sources really. Wiseco do a complete top end rebuild for the 3ma as do PROX pistons and these are quality shit. Alternatively you can get the Mitaka top ends or the OEM Yamaha one's which there's a good bet you can get much cheaper from overseas than from NZ Yamaha dealers. If you want to have a look at USA option then I would suggest rscycles.com or accuuproducts.com... download the parts manual or search 3ma in those websites and find the parts you want. For a 3xv I got a final price of 400 bux including shipping to my door for pistons, rings, gudgeon bearing and base gasket. You might be able to save money on the head gasket by taking the barrels and head off as one but thena gain i do not know the 3ma model.

    Good luck.

I had the 3xv and it was a bitch to get hold of top end rebuilds with pistons costing over 200 bucks each and over 100 for each ring...and the best bet was getting from USA.

There is also a lot of shit that pops up on trademe for 3ma...

Aaah, the memories of my reverse cylinder... Until a mate and I swapped bikes for a ride and a blind wench did a u-turn right in front of him...

Hope you come right. Would be sad to see another die...

The 1st models in to NZ had a real issue and you needed to have your dealer do the fix, all the other later models where fine.

They have this reputation of beiung time bombs because most of them where not serviced properly. if you get one thats been well serviced it will be an awesome bike. there are many myths about the 3ma model which are rubbish.

anyhow the tzr 3ma's i've ridden would rape your rgv imdying!

    Do you still need parts?

Tell you who does need some... Andy. He wants an undertray made for his bike... I keep telling him we'll just junk the tail and put a race tail on it... got a single seat fibreglass tail unit you can sell him? Doesn't need to be pretty, we'll do whatever repairs etc it needs... not sure what'd suit the ZXR, happy to try a few to see how they look though
