i went from 55K down to $12ph when my arms gave out after Baking i know how hard people have to work for that sort of money. most people on that money have 2 jobs.

if i lived up that way, id apply. the POS job im meant to be doing is only $13, with 4 of us currently on the verge of being fired and replaced by fijians. 2 of us got laid off on monday cos theyve over hired, and another 2 are likely laid off by now as well. so much for supporting the local community with jobs. hell, id be happy to find a decent job, with no lay offs every week for $12phr.

For what it is worth (sorry bad pun) vet nurses get paid about the same, $14 per hour. And generally, they have studied at polytech first 1-2 years. Just for comparison's sake.
posties just got a raise. I'm up to 15.82 plus extras.
but Id do that job. I've done worse for less pay. and a job is much better than no job.
I was reflecting on this thread, and I was going to make jokes about it, but then I got to thinking.
Without getting all introspective or whatever, it strikes me that there are some on this site who are fortunate enough that we've got enough bucks to have enough freedom to do stuff without too much worry and hassle. If the dog needs to go to the vet, I don't need to think about the bill, and I can afford to keep a couple of bikes plus a serious amount of pies.
My point is, that here in this country, there are a lot of people who are living above, or below the breadline by a margin. Now, I have no time whatsoever for dole bludging fuckwits (and if that's you, get off your lazy arse), but it strikes me that there are a significant number of people that earn $14 per hour and work hard for it.
I worked for everything I have, and so I respect the guys who are working at Subway to pay for their rent, and the guys at the servo, and the people who bust their asses to give me speeding tickets...![]()
Its diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; its life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.
Good call. My wife earns $12/ph, and works hard for it. I'm on more than double, but I don't work any harder than she does.
But from what I've seen, working in finance, it doesn't matter what you earn. It's what you do with it. I've seen people on 6 figure salaries struggling, & people on $25k who are saving a good part of the wages each week, and living comfortably.
I figure car drivers must be Apes. All they do is sit in cages all day & grunt
