Harley seats?

I went thru a ton of seats before I found my last one.. Had a few harley ones from the stock single seater to a pillow to some other POS. Finally settled on a corbins gunfighter - weighed a ton, felt hard a bricks but was so damned comfortable to ride with. Wasnt cheap though - think it cost me a good $800 or something at the time (was a good 7 years ago now).

I read a lot of info on the forums from USA about this and there seemed to be several schools of thought...sundowner, corbin, mustang and gel or air cushions.

I changed the stock seat off the softail for a sundowner and it is fantastic. So comfortable and easy to ride long distances without the sore butt...

I got mine from WMC and they were most helpful..as always!!!!

I did see the airhawk air cushion at this year's HOG rally and they seemed to be a good idea but haven't used one..anyone had their butt on one?

Ditto Moto Guzzi California, could also be that I'm too long in the legs for the bike and knees are elevated, putting all the weight on the tailbone.

That's a general cruiser thing - the ride position pivots the pelvis the wrong way, and you can't use your legs easily to absorb bumps.

I bought an Airhawk for my Hyosung GV250 - the stock seats on those suck the big kumara, frankly. I was reminded of this when I sold the bike - I took the Airhawk off before delivering it to its new owner, it felt like I was now riding on bricks.

The seat on my new bike however is pure luxury by comparison. I haven't done a really good long ride yet to see how it holds up, I should get a chance to do that this weekend.

The Harley factory I am sure must have designed the most uncomfortable seats for their bikes. After a longish ride yesterday I found my tail bone and bottom (thats ass to most KBers) was really sore. Hit a few potholes and railways tracks along the way which kind of didnt help.



I have searched the HD sites and forums and was hoping to get a single Sundowner seat but they dont make them to fit my bike. The next most popular seems to be a Mustang seat but I have never seen one in the flesh. Was kind of hoping someone out there has one and can tell me if they are any more comfortable than the Sundowner?

I am only looking at getting a "Solo" seat so if there are any other options it would be good to hear them too.

I was off it and walking around in each town but by the time I had reached thames My arse was sooo sore! my buddy was on a Kawasaki cruiser with a Mustang single seat and had no probs at all!! he is a skinny little runt though at about 60kg

Absolutely! Im used to riding My DRz400 on the road and you can stand up and have a little stretch and yes you can support yourself on the pegs a little over railway lines. my ktm 525 doesnt tire me 1/2 as much as the HD on the road. and my boots dont get dragged on the road either! the heels of my boots got a caning!

I suspect you're right because if i use the rear pegs as my foot rest I feel a lot better, but worry about being able to reach the foot brake which also operates 1 front disc quickly enough for emergency braking.

Yep thats exactly my story. Gawd your mate must be a runt he is lighter than me .

My bike doesnt have forward pegs so thats not the problem.

Cajun kindly took a look at it on Saturday and reckons it can be re-shaped so that may be the cheaper option. Thanks for all the suggestions its been really helpful.

MadDuck ... I can really recommend Mac's "Rider" seats. I have had 3 from him now on a variety of bikes, and they have all been excellent. I'm sure he could make you a really nice seat to suit you and your Harley.

I had my Guzzi seat built up with extra layers of foam by an auto trimmer in Pukekohe, can't remember his name but he's the only one in town i think. His workshop is on a street off the main drag in from Tuakau close to and on the same side as Full Throttle Motorcycles. Charged $200 and did a fantastic professional job. It's not the prettiest thing I've seen 'cause the hollow of the saddle is filled with foam to make the seat level but man it's comfortable and has also given me some elevation and leg stretch that i badly needed for my 6'1" frame.
