Scratched my new toy...

just found a couple of big ole ugly scratches on the rear cowling of my new VFR Must have been from my boot as I threw my leg over this weekend

Now not the end of the world I know, but how do I ( or how would you) get the scratches out of the plastic?

They are not too deep but before I have a crack with some polish or cutting compund is there some cunning biker trick to get scratches out of virgin plastic?

I don't have any cunning tricks, but I've been there done that. Fortunately (?), my VFR has some worse scratches, so the ones from the vifferbabe's race boots don't matter.
How big are these? Are we talking scuffs on the paint, or gouges through the paint into the plastic? If the former, I would use (because they're on the shelf of my gargre), Meguiars Swirl Remover followed by Plastex (Plastix?) plastic polish then Pledge (lemon, of course). If the latter, then perhaps some of that coloured polish (it doesn't work that well, but at least it's not agressive).

Where does you live on the North Shore? (PM me if it's a Top Secret).

Don't use cutting compound on a rag - you will scratch the clearcoat. Just fill the scratch with a quality silicone polish, such as turtlewax Ice.

somwehere between a scuff and a scratch I think.. not too deep, a couple of inches long each, but UUUUU-GLY on my brand new bike

I will try the mcg..swirl, pledge thing first off. (obviously lemon)

Have been stretching groin on a regular basis (don't ask)

will be much more careful in future, or run up and mount her with a leapfrog motion from the rear like how them cowboys get on to their horses in the movies!

Alternatively, get some plastic film ("Scuff Stuff"?) and put it on the scuff-susceptible parts of your paintwork (note that another place that gets rubbed very quickly is where the seat touches the back of the tank - that abrades through very quickly).

i live up that hill as well lol
