This appears harsh to the folks that just want to go for a hoon on their road bike and do laps of Taupo, but Mrs Kendog if you can make a rear tyre last 3-4 hours of that track, you simply are not going to be within that cut off time.

For example, pole position is set with a 1.34. Anyone slower than 1.48 per lap misses that cut off. It also means the slowest riders are going to be lapped by the fastest every 7 laps. I can personally swap the rear wheel in my bike in under one minute and I'd anticipate making a rear tyre last 45-50 laps. By this stage the top riders will be seven laps up on the slowest.

As you can see, tyre preservation is important, but extreme tyre preservation is too detrimental to lap times.
That basically put me off.... that and having to shell out for tyres, so decided to just concentrate on racing in the buckets.

Unfortunately Mr W.T is not running the event, so with all due respect, his opinion in this case dosent amount to jack.
P.M me if you want to discuss some assistance.

I going to take make the assumption you have never raced for real on a racetrack.

People should remember that this is aint going to be your everyday track day where passing on the inside is not allowed etc its a race! People are there to win. If you are racing the guy in front of you and you come up to back marker you not going to wait for the safest spot to overtake you going to do it with some risk to keep close to the guy in front.

So for those who might get lapped my suggestion would be to get off the racing line as soon as you see that blue flag. (as per the rules)

Dont get me wrong im all for this event we need a good racing event in NZ

I think your assumption is out of line. AJ knows his racing and is right. The onus is on the PASSER to do it SAFELY.

As for the bit I've put in bold...Yes you will wait for the safest spot to pass or you will be black-flagged if you're seen putting others at unnecessary risk, or worse, take out another rider. But if you're that good a racer you'll just go round the outside or up the inside without a problem.

I could be wrong (I often am according to my wife) but I think the %115 rule is actually an MNZ one, and therefore as an MNZ permited event it would have to abide by that anyway.

And as a racer (kind of) myself, I know that coming up on someone that is going considerably slower can always be a gamble, even in a straight line. You just never know when thay may change their line and you often wont have much time (if any) to compensate

Fair enough thats why i said im making an assumption.

As racer you know how much of a gamble it is to pass a back marker as Archer said you not always sure where they are going or even if they have heard you.

The last thing you want someone to do when you come up to pass them is to change their line, they should hold their line and let the guys coming up behind sort out how they will get by

I think you will find it's up to the event organiser what shape qualifying takes
