Anyone done their full test in Upper Hutt?

Got my full next week in upper hutt...

Anything i should know or practice before i go for it on Tuesday???

Gona do it on the wife's GN250 so got that covered...

- stick to speed limits or just under
- turn head to look in blind spots
- indicate when turning/overtaking
- ...???

I did my 6F test in Upper Hutt.

In addition to your list, make sure you cover your clutch and brake levers at all times.

Some tard in a ute tried to take me out during my test... so watch out for loons.
Practice identifying hazards as you will need to identify 'hazards' to the instructor.
Exagerate headchecks.

Otherwise relax & enjoy the ride.

Probebly best NOT to overtake anyone! the instructer might get pissed if you leave him for dust

Yeah, I did mine back in 1985. My advice is to work on your hill starts.

I don't really get this identify hazards bit...

Do I just talk out my ass and identify everything that is on or near the road in front of me.

Yes.... in front, behind & anything that may cross your path, this includes cars, jaywalkers, dogs & esp. tools driving eratically in ute's.

fyi, talking through your arse is not advised, as you could leave skid marx & as we all know loss of traction = instant fail

Had my 6F test here in Upper Hutt, got the short straw and had teh older gentleman whom is a lot tougher than he Aussie lady whom i had for 6R.

Test is simply a ride around the streets just north of the town centre, Ebdentown and Clouston park road etc, also went up to the turn off to Marua Palms. Did my hazard identification at the intersection of Clouston park road and Fergusson Drive. Simply say what vehicles went past you in both directions, any pedestrians or animals that may be coming your way along footpaths, any poor roading surface would be a bonus too. Also remember that teh instructor behind you is a potential hazard.

It is good if you note the color of the vehicles that are the hazards also.

Stay clam and ride sensible and youll be sweet.

Yeah I did my 6F in UH too, about 3 months ago. Had the same (older) guy as Bull and sounds like I did the same run as he did.

Lots of traveling around the smaller streets that weave their way around Ebdentown / Clouston Park west of Fergy Drive and then out to SH2 from Totora Park road and up to Mt Marua turnoff for the U turn. He uses a radio to speak to you through an earpiece telling you when to take next corner (turn left / right / go straight through) Make sure you stay reaxed and treat it as a bit of fun. As long as you indicate, use your mirrors, obey all road rules and limits you should be fine.

Before he does the Hazard part he stops and tells you what he expects of you. As stated above, remember the test car behind you is a Hazard also. You can ask him any questions you need to - he is quite approachable and if you dont come across as a young hoon then he should be ok to deal with.

If it is him, he has a motorbike too... its a S83 Boulevard I believe - and he loves it.

What he said. I got the exact same course last year. I didn't get an ear piece and a car followed me. I was just told to go here and there, so I did. I did the hazard awareness thing. I stated that the Kindy nearby was a hazard and the instructor got noticeably pissed that I saw that and he didn't and said that didn't matter (but it did really). The only thing he said was a problem during the test was I was going a bit quickly for his car, but I wasn't speeding so I didn't get marked down. At the end, I got a perfect score and I want merrily on my way.

If you've had enough experience on the road, you should breeze through it. You're not going to do anything you don't already do each day. For the Hazard awareness thing, mention car going left, going right, turning into the intersection you're on, nearby or possible pedestrians and the instructor behind you.

wish me luck. gota find the place first so gona get to upper hut a bit earlier to find it... aparently its on the courner of gibson and main streets but i never seen an AA there before.

try line locking it out the driveway into a one handed wheelstand into a 180 stoppie,,,he will pass you on the spot

woooohoooo i passed.

he pulled me up on not going fast enough though. was a little embarasinf admitting that the GN250 wont do over 85km in a head wind... and thats what i had as i rode back from caltex rimutaka and past the lights 100km area...
