SI Masters Games off-road motorcycling

Hi guys - the Princess and I are just back from the SI Masters games in Timaru (mixed doubles tennis - no don't ask) and I see that they had motorcross and trail riding (enduro) events on as well.
I would like to hear how these events went so if you went or know someone who did then please let me know.

Next years SI MAsters is to be in ChCh in Oct 09 and hopefully will have the same events and with any luck some sort of off road event on Banks Peninsula. I have bought a new Gas Gas EC300 which could be just the tool for this ageing pilot to get round a course. Would any other Adv Riders be interested in having a go at this?

Funnily enough Ruralman, when I found out about the Masters Moto-X at the weekend I was having exactly the same thoughts.....

I know the organisers of the Timaru Masters quite well ( It's held here every 2 years ) and would be happy to speak to them about organising a ride for the 2010 games here :-)

Thanks for those replies - personally I would prefer a trail/enduro ride rather than a motocross race (motocross seems a bit close and risky for a body that takes a bit longer to recover than it used to - plus I prefer the challenge that riding a genuine enduro type course entails with a mix of tight technical (almost trials) riding as well as faster open sections).
Not sure I'd haul my bike up to ChCh without knowing a lot more about what sort of riding was to be involved)
Stu if you can ask the organizers about what sort of course they had this year I would be interested to know that as well.

Looking at the 09 masters info for Wanganui, the "motorcross" event is actually two events, one a cross country and one a moto cross, I would be interested in having a look at that if anyone else is interested, in fact, if I took the 990 I could do the road ride as well.....thats probably a bit silly tho

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any other info so I guess its a bit of turn up and see what happens, 9 hole golf as a back up?

This years entry for the SI Masters had similar wording and it was a bit confusing - did they have 2 separate events, did they kind of put in some vague description and then wait and see how many entered and then decide what to do, did you have to enter both events....................
Like I said it would be useful to hear from someone who did it to see what happened but hopefully Stu's contact can shed some light.

As for the golf - I have had the occasional bash - enough to know I could quite easily become quite addicted and at the moment I can't afford/need another addictive pastime !!

I spoke to Chris, the organiser of the Bi-annual Timaru based South Island Masters Games and he said that it would be no problem at all to add such an event, but that their biggest worry is numbers of competitors for the first few years when a new event is introduced. I explained that due to the whole Kiwibiker Forums thing, that wouldn't be a problem.......

As an educated guess about the event: given it is run under MNZ rules, listed on the entry form as "x-country" and described as "moto cross / trail ride", I'd say it was a "cross country" which used to be known as hare scrambles. Basically a long-distance sprint, minimum 10km lap. Does not have the jumps of mx, nor the show-stopper technical trials-like stuff of enduro, nor the timing and assistance rules. The idea (from an organisational standpoint) is to keep the bikes moving, even though it can be very tricky riding.
