My 15 litre IMS tank has just arrived

For those of you on sensibly-proportioned bikes, 15L won't sound like much, but it should approximately double my capacity to reserve (currently 6L)

It's a tank for an XR650L, which means there will be some modification required to fit it onto the bike. So, once Clint gets back from Sweden, he will be set to work in his newly-purchased man cave to help install the sherpatanker.

Who's the one on the sensibly proportioned bike? The XTZ is packing 23ish L for 350ish kms! From my experience the 250's will do that on 15ish L.

Sounds like a good investment - extra range takes much of the hassle out of planning. Good luck getting if fitted.

We'll see. The tank shipped a lot faster than I had expected (about a week), so I haven't ordered the XR fuel tap for it yet
Assuming it arrives in a timely manner, I'll have to negotiate with my fabricator. Who will have to buy a welder first

Given that my bike has a bit less than 40% of the engine capacity of yours, my 15 litre tank is actually proportionately larger than your 35

If we take that to its logical conconclusion, it sounds like you're suggesting that you will get over 700 km from a 15 l tank

I have to admit that it strikes me as a good idea however, as it will mean that you can pack wine instead of fuel, no matter what the destination.

I've just gone back to my original small tank....I like it after the splayed knee 20 litre tank.I was getting a bit tangled on the lever things with my feet for a while,I can sit further forward with the smaller tank which helps with the handling.But I'm sure having to monitor my fuel usage on a small 300km plus ride a pain.Before I could go there and back on up to a 400km ride on one tank.

My 250 is getting a 23L tank I win!

Apart from the small detail that I've got a tank, motor, front wheel, forks and am yet to get the 1 or 2 other bits needed to build said bike.
