Extreme care SH1 - Waiouru to Sanson. (22nd Oct)

Drivers heading south on State Highway One are being urged to take care because about 2300 litres of automatic transmission fluid has been spilt on the road from Waiouru to Sanson.

Because of the fluid on the road a truck had jack-knifed near Ohingaiti, blocking the road, police said.

There had also been several non-injury crashes as a result of the spillage.

Inspector Marty Parker, of police central communications, said emergency services and a vehicle recovery unit were at the scene.

People planning to drive on the stretch of road should delay their travel plans.

Mr Parker said the vehicle that leaked the fluid had been found.

Yuck ! that'd be slippery shit too !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Must have been a real monster truck if the gearbox held 2300 litres. Wouldn't need to use the road.

Seriously though, it would have to be a tanker of some sort to lose that much fluid.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Yep - Stuff said it was over about 100km of road. Confirmed as having caused several accidents already.

2500 litres of transmission fluid spilled on SH1

Just heard that yesterday a truck spilled 2500 litres of transmission fluid on SH1 between Waiouru and Sanson. I also heard that a truck and a car came to grief in separate incidents presumably as a result of the spill.

I hope no bikers were affected.
