    Police radar equipment

I'm doing a bit of research into the currently used Stalker DSR - I'm sure some of you will have had it demonstrated to you. Does anyone know when this was introduced into NZ? Thanks.

Hi Big Dave, I have looked at that thread, but it doesn't give me the answer I need, which is when did the police first begin using them in NZ. I'm thinking it can only have been in the last few years.

I'll be on my best behaviour at this year's Chatto Creek, as you know it's just a pleasant outing and can easily be completed at or below the speed limit. Ask Keith Dore, he's entered on his (I think) Yammy 125.

Not sure if this is what you are after but this taken from the info available for one of Uniden's detectors:

Radar (Radio Detection and Ranging) is a microwave system
for detecting the speed of moving objects by reflected pulses of
    high frequency radio waves.

There are three radar bands (microwave frequencies):
    X-band (10.49 to 10.56GHz),
    K-band (24.04 to 24.26 GHz),
    and Ka-band (34.4 GHz to 34.8 GHz).

The X-band was the first used for traffic, followed by the Kband
(Hawk) which is harder to detect.
The Ka-band (Mobile Camera, Eagle, Stalker) was introduced in 1987. The
GPS9000NZ monitors all current radar bands including the
    entire Superwide Ka Band.

The whole document is here: http://www.radardirect.co.nz/uniden/gps1_manual.pdf

Thanks for that link, cs363, it was the answer I was looking for. After some further correspondence with you-can-probably-guess-who there may be a cautionary tale to post on the subject of you-know-what. Pardon me for being discreet at this time, but all may be revealed in due course.

As for the first checkpoint at the Chatto Creek 1000 Miler, FJRider, who knows what speed others will ride at? All I know is that I'll be tootling along quietly, as always.

I'll be treating it a scenic tour, and plan to finish about 3 hours behind you.
    Time to ride

    Will do.

FJRider, you'll be amazed (shocked?) to learn I'm entered on my own bike this year! After last year's successful three-stop strategy on the Varedero, I'm having a go at two stops this time. Bladder capacity allowing, of course!
