Angry My new bike came a cropper today

I was just leaving for work at 5.30am this morning, got the bike out of the driveway, set it on its side stand to close the gate.........was just about to put the latch on, and I hear this CRUNCH!
Turned around and heres my lovely bike lying on the ground
Now I know the automatic kill switch works
So after I finished having my anger fit, my boyfriend (who jumped out of bed when he heard the crunch) helped me pick it back up, cheers Andy! and then we surveyed the damaged.

Broken wing mirror, broken clutch lever, few scrapes/scratches along the side of the fairings/engine cover.......but worst of all, the rear seat cowl broke/cracked Oh the front left indicator also popped out, but managed to pop it back in.
I'm hoping its not too expensive too fix cos I dont really want to claim insurance for it.

First photo(taken with cellphone) is how it looked beforehand (it looked brand new)

    That sucks big time.
A mate did the same thing to my cruiser last week. I so feel your pain. I have spent the last week learning how to get grazes out of plastic and chrome etc..
Hope you can get it fixed cheaply. Its so gut wrenching when the bike is new too.
    Did the side stand fail?
I wouldn’t be broke if the voices in my head paid rent

There's a dude up your way does good plastic welding and resprays - worth talking to him mibbe. I think his name is Crazefox. Send him a PM.

It's a shame you don't live in Auckland as Cycletreads do just about every wing mirror imaginable at a fraction of the cost charged by motorcycle manufacturers.

Give them a call since the shipping is only about $5 anyway.
In space, no one can smell your fart.

Why not?? That's what insurance is for....with an insurance claim they'll fix every part that has even the smallest scratch on it...which can quickly add up to a couple of grand work of parts/work.
That way it's still mint for resale.

I had my bike fixed on insurance recently, and the claim didn't even affect my no claims bonus....some kind of new policy where once you've hit the maximum bonus you never lose it.

my friend has an 06 zx6r that fell at low speed as well, the first thing that happened was the rear cowl broke in the exact same way.

That sucks about the bike, hopefully shouldn't be too difficult to fix.

Damn. Looks like that might be common then. This is also another reason why I thought about investing in crash bungs

Side stand should have been fine. Its only just been revinned for the road. VERY slight slope - going from the footpath down to the gutter on the driveway....hardly even worth noting, and it was windy as well

Cool That is sad to see

    Ebay is your friend.

Dollar is not so great, but if you are hunting for well priced new kit and don't want an insurance claim.

Quick fix would be bit of plastic welding (somebody correct me here but you will probably need a new paint job because of the heat from the welding gun) or maybe even fibre glassing should do the trick.

Other than that Ebay would be your next best bet, there's heaps of stuff on there for really good prices!

Its unbelievable how much damage they sustain by falling over standing still. Pity you dont have crash knobs on it as it might have save fairing and casing damage. Not a nice way to start your day so heres hoping the rest of it ends up better for you.

it will need a respray after welding
as cracks need a hole drilled at the end of them to stop them tracking

    Ouch - that hurts.

A lot of damage for a stand flop!

Also look at some crash sliders - they are ideal for horrible "off the stand "accidents like that - in this case the crankcase would probably be saved from scratches.

I'd get on-line and check for race replica tail sections - there will be a few available for that model and a lot cheaper than a factory replacement.

If you want an idea of parts costs, pop on to www.bikebandit.com and search for your model - they have all the bits and prices - now these are USA prices so convert to NZ$ then add 20-30% on top and that's about what your dealer will charge you here

    Then purchase some beer.........
