ok, last post in respect to this.

My point, has always been, that i know exactly how fast Paul can and does ride and on a very good day i could just about keep up with him on low wick.

I've ridden with you and even with you on high wick you;re still playing catch up every smoko break.

i'd have no worries betting $500 or a gsx1400 on Paul winning the winter series.. none at all. he'd walk it. Therefore, with your comparisons in this thread as to how you're as fast/competent as Paul.. i bet YOU wouldn't do either of the 2 things. .. and YOU didn't; Actions speak louder than words Dan.

I was right, you don't have it in you, you're a) unable to mentally accept your wrong and b) delusional to think you're half as good a rider as Paul is.

so.. Dan, when i see you next you can be assured i'll be asking you to repeat the monkey comment !

Serious question and one most of us would like to avoid.
No one likes to think they will be seriously injured rather than die outright. No one wants to think of themselves having to be spoon fed.

But, as I have pointed out before, life comes with no guarantees. I could acquire a disease or genetic malfunction that will have me in the same position.

I could get squashed at work, roll down the stairs of my three story home, fall of my motorbike down a steep bank, slip down a slope and get followed up by the lawnmover giving me more than a close crop.

I certainly hope such a thing never happens but I have had way more close calls in life from non motorcycling experiences than I have with them.

You could ride perfectly, within the law all the time and still come to grief in the same way through some moron pulling out on you or doing something dum.
I don't push myself beyond my limits but what I have found in pushing myself too them, is a development of way faster reaction times and control so that when I need to call on them in an emergency they are right there.

There's no easy answer to that one mate. Not only motorcyclists face these sort of problems.

Maybe not - but it seems there's a shit load of motorcyclists who seem intent on actively courting such disaster.

Probably because motorcycling is inherently a higher risk activity than just about everything else out there.

That doesn't mean we should set out to increase those risks - or impose risks upon others through our actions.

Only 17 times a year to equal 10,000 miles?

I ride/drive at least 25,000km per year and have been driving/riding for 38 years, covering "who" knows how many miles/kilometers in that time. Total number of accidents? 1 at 20mph when I got shunted off a narrow gravel road by a cattle truck. Falls of the bike? 2. One at 2mph when the ribbed road front tyre slipped sideways on a wet clay driveway, and one at virtually zero when the same thing happened at a set of lights as I was just moving away as a car came around at a speed I didn't think he'd stop and grabbed the front brake. I hadn't even lifted my feet up onto the pegs.

I've had a few close calls of course, but the idea of a "close call" from 5,000ft doesn't really thrill me...

Experienced skydivers may disagree but I guess it's a case of what you're used to. I've never tried it, my sister did it for her 50th and reckoned it was the biggest buzz she ever had. Me, I'm a chicken...
