The Marketing Assn of New Zealand actually DO have a do not call register.
We entered it ages ago and the number of calls we get now is very, very few.

"I am a licenced motorcycle instructor, I agree with dangerousbastard, no point in repeating what he said."
"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
"Wow, Great advise there DB."

Cheers for that link Tank. I've just signed up for "do not call"
I had Monday and Tuesday off, and received 2 calls on each day:
HRV, Some kind of insurance, some kind of telephone plan and one call was so short I'm not sure what they wanted.
I had the same thing happen to me earlier this year, I knew what was coming from the start so I just let them go on right through the whole spiel, Blaa bla this offer is only open to credit card holders bla bla so about 30 minutes later at the end of the spiel when they asked for my credit card number I said fuck off and put the phone down.
I have three options I choose from:
A really boring one - "Im not interested thank you" and then hang up
And 2 which I like to use from time to time - if it's an automated one I press the hash key repeatedly then hang up ( I read somewhere that that stuffs up their computer system somehow) or I say "Oh someone's at the door, I'll be back in a tick" then walk away and leave the phone with them hanging on the other end wondering where I went. (Works best when you have call waiting and anyone else ringing you gets your answerphone instead of the engaged tome).
Bloody friggin marvellous stuff Tank. Big ups. Aren't you just full of useful shit today (I read another useful post of yours).
As for the scammers, I got one the other day. I was a little shocked to be honest, so I didn't tell them to fuck off and it didn't even cross my mind to call the cops. I think I just hang up on them. I feel a little cheated now. Bastards. I should have swore at them![]()
I was in Shanghai not long ago, bought a brand new prepaid sim card for my mobile. A day later some dude with a yank accent calls me (he even knew my name)* and ask if I wish to continue with the "real estate investment opportunity" which I had "discussed with his manager during a meeting a few months earlier". He requested to meet with me, I told him to get fucked in the nicest way. Spoooky....
* I haven't given my new number to anybody at this time
Religion is not the opium of people. Opium is
Sounds like the telephone scam version of "going international"
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.
They just mentioned this mob on Police 10/7
Apparently the callers have 'foreign accents'
Go figure...

Donor: So ya glad you're a Biker?
Minnie: F**k yeah!
