Grub's Wellington Funeral (Thu 13 Nov)

Anyhow...

What a beautiful funeral! I was humbled to be part of it today and I wish to extend my thanks to my big KB family! You lot are the tops! The amount of support I have seen towards Kari, Flea and each other is amazing! I am very proud, to call you my family

We just got home from Wellington now... after staying at the squash club for a while... to which I almost (probably did) get myself in trouble! And off up to Auckland we go tomorrow for the next funeral Lucky man!

My darling would be so amazed at what happened today. Being taken into the airport by so many people - who all were just so fantastic .. and so fully supportive today. It was so cool to look back from the front car and not see the end of the bikes.

It was also funny and amazing all the little parts that people played in making today a day that my lover would be so proud of .. and to call himself a kiwibiker. I can't thank you guys enough. It was quite funny leading my darling into the chuch today ... I was later told that most people follow the herst... I just said that it was ok ..cos Grub would have follow me to the ends of the earth and I wasn't ready to change that just yet.

As I again took the lead to depart the church ... looking back at the people there, the family (mine is huge) .. the friends ... bowlers, club members, work collegues both Grubs and mine, kiwibikers and just those who just touched our lives for a short time and those who touched them for a long time, I remember that no matter what and no matter who Grub always cherished time with everyone we met.

My darling is coming home. I know .. well ... its a different box, but I bought him home so her mother could grieve him and she is giving him back so that we can take and scatter him to the ends of the earth .. and you know i think I might in time.

Today is the another day to say good bye .. that you know .. that is ok ... to say he loved me to death .. to those of you who saw us know .. problem is I didn't mean that to be literally!

I take the strength from yesterday and from you guys to get through the next wee period .. I will be home in a few days .. if anyone wants to stop in for a coffee .. feel free ... our home has always been and will always be an open home for those who are travelling or just taking the time to shoot the shit.

Thanks to everyone who participated in todays sendoff ... each and every role was well played ... there is little else i can say at this point.

Kia kaha to you all ... I know I am strong .. my man helped me to become that way ...

Kari you were truley amazing the way you stood in front of everyone and said the words you did about your Lover and soulmate Grub. You had so much strength which was admired by all of us that were there to say our final farewells to 1 amazing guy who touched all of our hearts in so many different ways.

I know that all of us who were there yesterday and also for those who couldn't be will be thinking of you today at the Auckland Service.
Grub, I know will be with us all while out riding the highways like he was yesterday and the memory of him will live with so many of us forever.

It was a pleasure to have known you and I know that you will always be in my heart and thoughts, not only while riding but also while at the race track.

Twas an honour to be a part of yesterday's proceedings. And to help Grub on his journey.
Can I just take this opportunity to remind everyone of the great spirit and camaraderie that seems to bind us bikers? The one that comes to the forefront at times of tragedy. The one that has us go out of our way to help others. The one that makes us stand out from the 'ordinary' crowd.
And also a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to all who provided the means for some to be there yesterday. Some who might otherwise have been unable to lend their support to Kari.

When we were going down Calabar Drive (the one that runs alongside Welly Airport runway), did anyone else see the DC-3 take-off as we rode down there?

I thought that was awesome timing, especially how Brett was a keen aviator.

i think i may have heard it. i know i glanced up at a plane that was making a hell of a racket as we arrived at the airport. no clue what it was though.

it was an amazing funeral and very well organised. thank you to everyone who attended and behaved themselves. aside from a few cagers thinking they were bikes and breaking up the line, the ride in went perfectly. aside from the circumstances, it was good to see old friends and meet new ones. it was a send off grub would have been proud of

susan and i were honored to do our duty as riders and pay our respects to grub. unfortunately, the video susan was supposed to be doing didnt work at all and we didnt get anything. i think she might not have pressed the button or something.

stayed at madmals last night... thanks heaps bud! you and your family are awesome [specially jade! ]
good ride home today. just took my time and pootled along mostly at 90, but reaching 110 if the mood took me. LOTS of camera cops parked up... one just north of otaki just after the uphill. luckily, a cage flashed its lights and i was able to slow down in time. another on the foxton strait right after a passing lane. was doing 98 by the time i was in front of him, lol. there were other cars parked up that i suspected, but wasnt sure of.
had a stack of harleys catch up with me by whangahu at the road
works... so i was surrounding with rumbles going up the hill.

lol. if i cant identify what it is, its a racket . a plane took off right over our heads as susan and i were leaving. i didnt get a look as i was attempting to keep with with team cudby [hopeless endeavour! i hate wellington traffic!] but it was pretty cool.
