So... if you don't want to go to Duvaucelles, don't follow me
Steve I think that you would be the perfect person to look at a Thursday night ride for the faster crew (I mentioned this before). U tend to be at the front of the pack and like to head to duvauchelle, so maybe creating a Thurs ride to cater for the likes of you might help sort the wed ride out a bit. Obviously the wed ride would do the duvauchelle run now and then but not every week.

    Just a suggestion!

Have to agree with that, there is a lot of long straight riding going any other direction, and the port hills cater for road bikes and "adventurers" alike.

I guess bikers are just born to be radicals - chaos wafting in their wake.

Duvauchelles really is the premium destination for all, and perhaps should be the "default", and any alternative destination for anti-duvauchellians can be debated in the car park??

I vote to keep it to just one night per week.

as someone who regularly-ish attends both Auckland and Christchurch rides i have to say that a little organization is inevitable unless chaos is what we are all looking for.personally i get enough of that at work.

i have to say the ATNR s seem pretty well organised and i am sure that didnt happen overnight,or by accident

so yeah maybe people should have a choice of routes if needed but then stick to them?

I like doing other rides to other places, but I _really_ don't like the peak traffic going out of town on Wed nights, so I generally prefer to go around the Bays.

Duvuchelles is a bit far for me every Wed, but I'd be happy going to Little River and then coming back via Wheatsheaf/Governors Bay and Lyttelton ... maybe the 'slower' group could include this as an option?

I don't see anything wrong with doing the same run each week; practice makes perfect, and I am less likely to get lost

As I suggested once, if there are people concerned about organisation of rides -

someone needs to grab a calendar, for every Wednesday write a destination in and way the group is getting there.

Post up the filled in calendar.

If people don't like the plan for that day then they don't need to come. If weather is no good and nobody shows, well thats just one on the calendar that doesn't get done. With 30-40 people showing up as is, hardly an issue if even half those numbers decide they don't like the ride one week so don't show, but they all come the week after as it's something they do like the idea of.

Then there is no reason for people not to know whats going on, and nothing stopping people showing up and then going off with their own group if they decided to.

eh, im not a huge fan of the akaroa/devauchells GP

I much prefer evans pass, lyttelton, right around to diamond harbor.

I like the road better, i like the destination better, I like the beer that the destination has better, I like that I don't have to worry quite so much about gas or clothing.

diamond harbor should be default seeing as it almost is anyway.

this is all my opinion of course.

You should be just as worried about clothing going there as anywhere else. IMO too. Diamond Harbour is still a fair haul in bad (wet and/or cold) weather to get home again.

I like the social thing, I lead for 2 reasons: 1) No bugger can sort themselves out so I get impatient and go anyway and 2) I don't like passing through a slower pack of riders and leaving first avoids that.

Mrs El Stevo (being one of the slower ones) doesn't want to see a split to 2 days because even if we seperate on the road we meet up at the destination, and she also enjoys catching up with people that mostly fall into the 'fast' group.

I agree, I like to have a catch up at the start too, thats why I get there early. Even if the 'fast guys' ride on a different night you'll then have problems with the 'next fastest' group. I treat it as a social thing and I believe it will naturally split into groups of equal abilitys.

Anyway, to summerise I think there should be more focus on the social aspect and less concern about riders ability, there will always be someone faster and someone slower than any given rider.

You don't see the faster riders asking the slower ones to ride on a different night do you?

I never said it did, I've also never seen you there...

To state the obvious, people are individuals and tend to do what they want. It's damn near impossible to make everyone ride at the same pace
