Unhappy Buell 1125r (paint is shit)

    Hi all

I went on the 1000ks ride and got home to find the paint on my new less than 5000ks bike has paint worn off.

Its from where my leathers have been rubbing, however i would of thought the paint would have been thicker or better wearing.

I spoke to the bike shop and we have taken photos and they have been emailed to buell in aussie, just waiting on a reply now.

Was told by bike shop that this is normal and buell may not come to the party and fix it.

One would think it would be leather friendly?

    Your 1125r?

Times change. Margins get squeezed. Paint gets thinner.

    Gidday Mate,

I have an 04 XB12R and I have noticed that on the left side of the frame their is wear marks from where my or previous Owners clothing has rubbed. It looks like the paint has darkened in this area not alot but if you look you can see it I just put it down to wear and tear (yep its an 04).In the Usa you can get frameskins in Carbon fibre or the 3m stuff to protect the frame I haven't seen them here though.Good luck with the Dealer with a Bike as new as yours they should do something about it. I've got a can of buell frame paint for when my bike needs it.
    cheers

Thanx for that, Mine has a blue frame thats most likely why it's more noticable, Looks like black primer comming through still not right in my eyes, If i'd known such a new bike was gunna wear so quick i would have maybe put clear 3m on the sides,

    Cheers

Might be a dumb question (wouldnt be my first one lol) - but is it wearing thru - or a mark on top of the paint from your leathers?

You should expect more for your $20k. Perhaps you could contact "crazefox", as he's a painter local to you and get his opinion. I'd be interested to hear his take on it.
We are talking frame here are we not?

Oh so true! Take a look at a late model car in the sunlight and you may see how transparent some of the paint jobs are.

I tend to leave the whining until after all avenues for fixing the problem have been tried and the net result is nothing. It's a touch unfair to bag Buell in general and a local dealer by association when you haven't heard back from the distributor yet.

But what would I know? I like KTM's matt/gloss mixed finish.

Awww play fair James! I think bagging the bagger is a little unfair!

So does this mean I'm bagging the bagger of the bagger?.......................Bugger!

    Really?

It's weird - I read that it is a early 08 model issue (mismatched oranges) that they are sorting for later ones - they promise to get the orange matching on all panels. Pretty good of them considering the price...

Or they should have just copies HD's marketing people and come up with a snazzy name for the different tones - like HD's flat tanks are call denim.
