Ooooh you'll be a shoe-in, mate. Piece of piss with a bike like that. I imagine the South American terrain will suit it very well; the sprung seat will soak up the hills just lovely.
Yeah, you never hear of any sort of unrest or trouble and strife in a place like South America![]()
Why are they taking robots to a bike race/ endurace event??
If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
There was a 660 Ralleye KTM for sale on Trade me. It was from Australia.
I remember the set-up, it was fantastic. It looked great and was ready to go. It belonged to a Privateer and for $20000 you could have the bike, it all set up and included the shipping crate made specially for the event.
I think the competitor used it in the desert race over in Australia.
Fantastic engineering, if only money was no object...
Have you ever wondered about the entry fee for a privateer on the Dakar?
I downloaded the entry form just out of curiosity....
Forget about the 20% needed for a mortgage deposit, the money the Dakar asks for in unbelievable.
I think off hand it was over $100,000 NZD after converting to the Euro...
Insurance, air-lift out, sentinel, comms, etc etc, but once in everything is free, including all the food you want to eat - 24 hour canteen, drink etc..
Mind you, finish a stage at 1am if late and as a privateer rookie, out the door again at 4am, no time for food...lol
The thing that gets me is, I believe it is worth it but the privateers that do this race on their own back and with limited sponsors, albeit a bike shop for tyres or similar.
These guys front up year after year and I remember the year before last there was some Scotsman that was nearly or at 70 years old!
Shit! couldn't belive it, AND he was doing it for the umpteenth time.
So, after seeing Charley enter it and do it before he broke his wrist, the only respect I had for him was the fact that he tried it. The entry, the sponsor etc was all taken care of and all he had to do was front up after a bit of training (all paid for in the desert in Africa, the odd Enduro event in UK)
We really need to appreciaite Joe Bloggs here that turns up and is given a small crate for everything, spare parts, tools and living gear for the next three weeks....
This is a truely amazing event for a motobike enthusiast, my hats go off to these fellas!![]()
I was scrolling through the competitors and saw this entrant?
