You will be fine. That is what rides such as this are for.

Would it be worth coming along for me?

Excellent I would very much like to.
What about the running in period for my bike? Bearing in mind 4000rpm is only about 55kph in 5th gear. Is the manual just being pessimistic about this?

You should come and let me ride your '09
Seriously though, I wouldn't until you've had more practice by yourself.

Listen to the run-in guide, so you can get the longest life out of your bike.
Come on some rides once you've had your first service.

is that 150km your total riding experience or just for this bike?

aside from the run in period, whether or not you attend is (from where i'm sitting) more an issue of your competence and confidence

ie if you've been commuting/riding around town enough to be comfortable and competent operating your machine, you'll be fine.

if you're struggling with the clutch, can't perform an emergency brake, or are not comfortable in corners i will strongly suggest you wait for our next carpark ride. seriously.

either way this will still be experience, but whether or not it's a good one is the issue. i'd hate to see green paint scuffs along the road.

as such, don't be offended if i ask you (or anyone else at either end of the spectrum) sit this one out. it will be for the good of you and the group

if you don't want to rev your bike over 80kph, perhaps get the first service under your belt. kawasaki has undoubtedly spent many millions developing those motors over the years and know what will best keep the machine running until the end of the warranty period, by which time you will have your full
(of course you could just thrash it until the warranty runs out/problems occur then flick it off on trademe as "brand new never thrashed" and field off all questions by saying you're selling on behalf. use all caps for maximum effect)

    OT here...
the 70kph learner limit is there for a reason - unfortunately, reality and impracticalities (for non-rural residents, read: impatience) often outweigh the reasoning behind it. imho 6 months is too long for some and too short for others.

    Angry

I wanna come for a ride! Sadly, I've worked 10 hour night shifts for the last 3 nights in a row, so I'll be pretty wasted today...

I'd very much like to go on a learner cruise on the FXR. I did ride it home from Hamilton to Auckland when I bought it, but I was by myself, and sticking to 70 wasn't fun at ALL!

Oh, and I must start a thread about inaccurate speedos. I rode to work last night with my GPS stuck to my tank, and the digital speedo is more than 10kph out. when it says 60kph on the speedo the GPS says 49 or 50!!!

So I was doing closer to 60kph all the way back from Hamilton!! No wonder it took so darn long.

AND, I've booked myself in for the Restricted test in 2 weeks! Woohoo.

Sheesh, I sure felt like it. But there are lots of cops along that stretch, and I didn't want to risk it. But man the trucks sure roar past! They really pull you along too, when you're trying to go slow. The FXR wanted to go faster though. If only I'd known that 90 on the speedo is still under 80 in true speed.

The 150km is just for the bike, I've done a little bit more as I went on the confident rider course with Riderskills.

Thanks for the advice. I'll wait until the first service before going on the open road too much if it's best for the bike. There's always the next learner ride.

about which aspect? you're a shining example of why a learner shouldn't be doing high speed on their first day

do remember the harbour bridge and the whole of spaghetti junction, arguable the most confusing part of the motorway, is an 80k zone with traffic that often stops completely
