If people are serious about increasing their skills then:

    1) go to the track (Tuesdays and Fridays are best)
    2) spend more time riding - practice makes perfect
or 3) spend some one on one time with a trusted rider, groups of novices are not the best place to learn.

Another thing that bothers me about this ride is all the focus on new riders and 'forcing ones infinate wisdom' onto them. IT'S NOT THE NEW RIDERS THAT ARE COMING TO GRIEF!

Mate... the boldered and 1-3 is good thinking/advice, I like...
And from every acco I have seen on the WNR it has been a roocky/new rider that has fucked up, this dosnt mean a old bastard like me cant fuck up, but thats not what we are talking about. Last nights rider altho he owned a Busa (writen off I believe) was a rockie.

Sorry no it wouldent IMHO be a good idea for him to attend these rides at all, problem is the young get carried away... its not this simple.

Somebody wanna tell me about how it works? I've done some research via google in the past but it hasn't actually explained when the track is open, where it is (ruapuna), or... anything.
Been interested in paying it a visit for a while but yeah, obvious obstacles.
If anyone wants to contribute via PM, profile, or this thread I'd greatly appreciate it. If anyone's keen to go there at the same time that'd be awesome too but not too worried. Cheers.
I am a frequent racer at Ruapuna, your bike is perfect for a training class that can then bump you up to street stock.

Agreed Steve. I think that it is great that you head off and take your own route. As you say, it has not been the new riders coming to grief, its the guys/girls that think they are the next Rossi or whatever, that are going to fast and think they are all that that.

But remember if someone crashes while doing the Akaroa GP as part of the wed ride, and the Police ask about the group, and someone says how its a weds ride organised on KB Blah Blah Blah, and they go looking for someone to blame, then that someone is going Phoenix, who more than likely wouldnt be with you. It will tarnish all those on the ride, whether they be fast or slow, so its ruined for everyone. Hence my suggestion of shifting the fast crew to another date so that they are not associated withe the CRUIZY wed ride that got shot down.

That should leave a much smaller more manageable and like minded group ready to go with out the confusion of who's who and where the heck did everyone go.
Then do something like buddy those who are left up so that you know who you are following, that the rest of us are are going to the one destination and that the person you are following knows you are there to keep an eye on.
This last group would get away from the car park a good 5 or 10 minutes after the others so will have no one cutting them up and when we arrive at the destination all the queues for food etc will be gone.
The initial meeting at BK will be just as social as ever, the destination will be just as social as ever but the ride for this smaller group should feel much more organised and probably more satisfying for those who'd really like to put the cruise and learner friendly back in to Wednesday. Yes I'd be one of them.
SOunds like a great idea TA, I know you taught me so much last year and would be great at working with a slow group.

Actually Dangerous, i've noticed that Jwalkers riding has improved greatly since the last time I've seen him on the road and that was about 1 year ago.

There will always be crash's, it dont matter how many times you say ride at your own pace, or ride safely. In on ear and out the other! Its a shame but its a fact!

Its not worth repeating yourself Dangerous, i know you mean well but nothing will ever change. when you have a large group as we do here accidents will always be a factor.

Its just how she goes boys, its just how she goes!!

I aint been riding long compared to most of you here but something i learnt fast is that, it dont mater what you say at the start of a ride, as soon as ya get going... all that was said is out the door! Saying that i dont mind offering advise, i dont have as much experience as some on here but i've come a long way in a short time so i must have taken some advise on board.

we all know who the nutters are out there, so just be wary and dont follow to close and dont get sucked along with them when they go pass, dont follow thier bad habbits!

not for a while and I am not interested, how ever if you have the balls to ask me to ride with you I will, its not just about riding ability its also about... MATURITY

I put SGC in () because I wast refering to all the guys that you ride with, some I saw with you last night wouldnt give a shit about what ever weird secret relgio gang you run... neither do I for that matter

I dont offer but am willing to help those that ask, but 1st I like to see there attude and reason for wanting to improve... I am rider/bike pro active.

Why don't you guys have seperate rides like we do here in Welly? Wednesday night is the Cruisey ride where newer riders are welcomed and helped to learn how to ride in a group and know there will be experienced folk to help if they need it (as much as there's been some bitching about behaviour etc in that thread also, it has mainly come from people who have not been attending the rides and only commenting on what they read on KB, not so much from attendees) and Thursday night is for the faster riders who want to go for a fang as a semi-group and still have the social side of talking shit afterwards etc. Just an idea, may help, may not.

been watching comments in both welly & canterburys cruisy ride threads over the last few weeks with a bit of interest. Common denominators in both threads on the exact same subject, funnily enough both started around the same time.

Not having attended either welly or canterbury's rides, but just find it interesting that both appear to be having same issues/discussions

Concerns always when someone crashes on what should be a laid back kinda ride though

Notted re: Walkers riding to date.

THERE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE CRASHS at all, it is not expected and it is not nessary, but yes I hear what you are saying... and you as a late beginer at riding are an expection, you are a rear natural, and who put you on the right line and let you perfect yourself?
