Really? That's strange to me as the ones here seem to work very well. The folks that want to just ride their bikes however go to the Thursday ride and the ones who are willing to help newer riders or just go for a 'cruise', and the newer riders go to the Wednesday ride, the two don't tend to mix too much so the wide varieties of riders don't get entangled with each others agenda. Any idea why the idea was poo pooed?

[QUOTE=dangerous;1837282] Sorry no it wouldent IMHO be a good idea for him to attend these rides at all, problem is the young get carried away... its not this simple.

I'm all for learning from someone you trust. But, like me when I started, having just moved to Christchurch I knew noone. I didnt know who was good or bad, etc. Phoenix wasnt the teacher for me, so if it wasnt for the wed night ride, and meeting JM, TA & WOFman (My 3 wise men) I would probably have not continued riding. So for me these rides have been essential.

I know I have been given good and bad advice over the years but I guess I have been mature enough to work out what was good and bad, and where I sit in the group in terms of ability. I guess maybe its because I'm older.......

First time out this year, and what a mighty turnout.
Sure not a bad thing at all, the more the merrier.

Sadly did not end all that merry.

Most has been said, and there are great confident riders out there that know there stuff. I have learnt so much myself from following others.
This whole ride comes down to respect of others and having a good ride. Not racing or riding in an erratic manner like no tomorrow and increasing the likely hood of ya mates coming round the corner to find in a not so good state.
If you want to racer ride do it on your own time and not on this ride, because as has happened, and if the acco's continue, they will eventually kill what was once a good way to get out and meet like minded people.

Mostly this one sums it up...

Mrs El Stevo (being one of the slower ones) doesn't want to see a split to 2 days because even if we seperate on the road we meet up at the destination, and she also enjoys catching up with people that mostly fall into the 'fast' group.

I agree, I like to have a catch up at the start too, thats why I get there early. Even if the 'fast guys' ride on a different night you'll then have problems with the 'next fastest' group. I treat it as a social thing and I believe it will naturally split into groups of equal abilitys.

Ha ha, I love that term

Anyway, to summerise I think there should be more focus on the social aspect and less concern about riders ability, there will always be someone faster and someone slower than any given rider.

You don't see the faster riders asking the slower ones to ride on a different night do you?
I could be wrong but I think the idea of splitting in to two nights was raised and squashed last year too.
Personally i like the idea, then I could go on both.
Next best thing I reckon is proper staggered departures so the laid back lot don't get confused and mixed with the rest.

That should leave a much smaller more manageable and like minded group ready to go with out the confusion of who's who and where the heck did everyone go.
Then do something like buddy those who are left up so that you know who you are following, that the rest of us are are going to the one destination and that the person you are following knows you are there to keep an eye on.
This last group would get away from the car park a good 5 or 10 minutes after the others so will have no one cutting them up and when we arrive at the destination all the queues for food etc will be gone.
The initial meeting at BK will be just as social as ever, the destination will be just as social as ever but the ride for this smaller group should feel much more organised and probably more satisfying for those who'd really like to put the cruise and learner friendly back in to Wednesday. Yes I'd be one of them.
Sounds good to me TA or better still splitting the days Cruisy Wednesday as it initially started, and another day for those that don't wanna cruise. When we moved to Chch I looked forward to being able to catch some of these rides but I came home last night intending to give these rides a miss in the future. If something doesn't change I won't be back. I enjoy the company and a casual ride but I don't need this sort of shit. As I watched the prang unfold I was sure he was going to take out either HOT or the car. He was dead set on passing HOT at any cost going like a rocket and bugger anybody else. The real dumb bit is I don't do quick & HOT was riding to my speed - if he'd picked his time he could have safely flicked past us without any drama. Shit I make room when I see somebody comming up on my back wheel. When Dangerous & I went over the bank looking for him I was sure we were looking for a body. I can't believe he survived and none of it needed to happen, it was just dumb shit idiot riding, and there's been some of that on each of these rides I've been on except for our 'adventure' version a couple of weeks ago with Coonyr. This is intended to be a cruisy ride, those looking for something else should look/go elsewhere. Fit in or fuk off Cheers.
Sometimes you wish it was easier, but if it was, everyone else would do it, then you remember you don't want to be like everybody else!

WOW... never knew you had that in ya Timmie

Hey look, J the meronic, Trans the alper, Phinix the Grand Tourer ARRR... its bloody awesome to see the effort you guys put in it really is, however... ya flogging a dead horse this being why I stoped atending the WNR's last year.
What starts of a great idea will always grow, my running the BMRC is a example, I have tripled members now we have such a huge field in F4 that there is saftey issues etc on the track... the WNR is the same, the words out, people will continue to come and the pack will get bigger... and somewere along the way the hole idea of the WNR is lost.

My opion, contact off line txt or p/m up a ride were newer riders want to patisapate, keep it small and shit will work out and people will benifit, sorry bout putting the kibosh on the hole WNR idea.
