Re celtic skin... The radiologist that he saw at the nuclear medicine department was from Aberdeen and she said she was lucky to see two cases of melanoma a year when she worked up there....
I think it's a combination of celtic skin and NZ UV levels in this case, Jaxi

hope it all clears up for you pussy, it is not a great thing to have at all.
i think anyone over the age of about 18 is prob screwed as sun screen was never ever something you thought about putting on.
at work we are strongly advised to get mole maps done and work pays for half (they are not cheap) as we spend all our time out in the sun, and we stop the kids every hour or so to put sun screen on.
but i still come home sun burnt too often even under my big dorky wide brim hat.
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

Well we all been burnt and we all don't want anything more serious such as that maleanoma thingy to come back and haunt us later in life. So we all feel for you if that takes some of the pain away - do the drugs as these will help initially.

Fireball is right - for many of us in the "older" age bracket sunscreen just wasn't an issue when we were younger. In fact, as has been pointed out already we used to literally fry ourselves with oil then lie out in the sun.
I have always burnt rather than tan but was determined not to be the whitest of the white kids (all the cool girls had lovely tans); however now I'm older I jsut tell myself "white is the new tan". The fact that my legs still look like milk bottles (how many of you young ones even know what they are) is everybody elses problem **reach for the sunglasses!!**
    Hope you heal quickly John.

I had a malignant melanoma a few years ago. I was lucky they caught it just as it was 'turning' and they managed to get it all with surgery. Funny thing is, it was on my bum! And I can guarantee my bum has never been out in the sun.

So yeah - apply that sun screen, keep an eye on any funny moles, and don't assume because it's in some place where the sun doesn't shine, that it can't be melanoma. Get it checked out anyway.
There is no such thing as bad weather; only inappropriate clothing!

Solar Kerotoses.....I get those - get em knocked off with liquid nitrogen or CO2! Got a new gel treatment you apply to the affected areas over a 3 month period, which is meant to clear the areas up - don't know how effective it is, yet.......
That'll learn me for getting fried to a crisp, as a kid, then working outside for years.............

Cheers for that, I will ask about the gel for sure, nothing like getting cool soothing stuff gently rubbed on hot spots!...

Gabby learnt from Xmas last year She fell asleap at the St heliers beach her back was red as a beetroot, the string from her bikini was still there allmost 2 months later, every time I saw her naked I kept telling her to take of her bikini She could not believe how bad the sun was here in New Zealand compeared to Portugal. She learnt the hard way.
I was shocked that she had a bikini tan lines

I got lots of strange looks from my loader driver as I was using the aeroplane's control lock to scratch my back as he was loading the plane
