    South Island tour

starting to plan my tour for after xmas. planing to go to the coast from chch then up it then back down the east coast. not sure if i will go anywhere down south at this stage. maybe later on. just wanting to know of interesting things to do/see up that way? and what is needed to take on a tour as have never done it before. i will be on a sports bike so not alot of room. and anyone who wanted to join me for it or parts of it are welcome. paln to go just after xmas sometime. wanting to go for a week or maybe more.

    cheers,

    ryan.

Enjoy it, a week might seem like a long time but if you chew up the k's you will be in Nelson on the first day. Queen Charlotte drive between Picton and Havelock is well worth the time, very scenic although I think fuel is a concern there as the station in Havelock has closed, might pay to ensure there is fuel at Rai Valley.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

I think there was an article about someone opening the station in Havelock again? Could be mistaken tho.

Shouldn't be too much of an issue tho, Picton to Nelson is 114km.

Do your best to ride through the Buller Gorge, thats fantastic... Arthurs Pass and Lewis Pass are scenic, but I found them a bit boring road wise.

It's barking mad and if it doesn't turn you into a complete loon within half an hour of cocking a leg over the lofty 875mm seat height, I'll eat my Arai.

can confirm that fuel IS available at Havelock, and as for "the situation"... ummm yes.. big news here locally, so does everyone know/care what happened? Havelock by the way is a wee township about a 1/3 way out of blenheim heading to nelson, but like previous have mentioned, it's only around 125 k's or so from blenheim to nelson, so it's not like wanaka to civilisation via haast or anything so nasty
