Ive witnessed them dropping the whole bottom end on more than 2 bikes with less than 13k, and heard of a shit load more doing it, the chains are prone to coming off and causing accidents, The front brakes always seem to be troublesome, and all this from brand new bikes.

Also most of the last 15000km of my 33000km has been ridden 2-up.

I haven't heard of anyone owning one and having this happen to them. I think everyone who owns a bike needs a simple crash course on how to look after a bike first... simply daily checks such as oil, chain tension, brakes etc.

I blew a Piston, which in turn took out the conrod and crankshaft with it, at 17,000Km.

In the middle of nowhere. (Well, Thames.)

So I bought something that's really reliable instead.

Yes do lots more ks, after 60000 it will be fine

Seriously though they do get easier and make sure you keep to the service intervals - not doing them makes it worse

Sorry but I have exceeded that amount by >6 times.

Since you have never heard anything but shit about them I will tell you the complete opposite so the statement cannot be correct anymore

Yeah man drop the idle down a tad, bikes dont go out of gear if the revs are slightly too high, i have mine idling at about 1500rpm or 1800 when engine really warm

My chain came off just past 8000km on the takas however this could be attributed to inadequate maintenance or the chain needing replacement etc.

I also had issues with the clutch not fully engaging - when at the lights in first for example with the clutch pulled in it would still roll forward, even after checking the clutch settings at the bars and engine and taking apart the clutch we couldnt find the problem so i was taking into my motorcycle store and just pulling up back when the engine crapped out with only one piston running and kept stalling unless the revs were held up.

Turned out the timing chain slipped and four valves were cracked and a cam bent, this was at 11250km so technically over the 10000km warranty however after a bit of negotiating and some really good work from my motorcycle store they agreed to cover the replacement parts and labour. It has been known that the timing chains have been a weak point in the gt250s.

Also there was no problem with the clutch plates etc as i had them checked multiple times, i guess its just a wee glitch.

Hyosungs are fun bikes i loved mine for what it was - a simple, cheap and good looking 250 learner bike. There are some issues with build quality especially in the earlier models however over time these should be nutted out as hyosung becomes a mainstream motorcycle manufacturer.

And were the owners all like the OP, who now admits that he didn't tighten the axle up properly so the chain kept coming loose?

Christ there's a lot of self-assured bullshit and superiority amongst NZ bikers. Having a Jap/Euro bike doesn't mean shit.

Yea at least mine was my own dumb fault, I have since had a crash course in bike maintaining, which i will add to so i can hopefully do quite a few things myself.

But yea alot of this crap is easily avoidable if there is good efort put in by the rider from the get go (and of course once hyosung actually hire a quality control team)

I should rename the thread "My Hyobag doesn't play nice cos im a doofus"

The clutch seems to engage wherever it feels, not where i set it to. I have to adjust it every now and then

and to top it off my front brakes decide to have a fit if i need to apply them suddenly and firmly. It seems like the pistons in the calipers ar sticky. All it needs is a good few solid taps on the calipers and its swet but still, VERY annoying. It makes it hard to reverse and squeaks loudly when i brake

did i mention i've only done 4000km's on it
    1) Buy a new o-ring chain, oil it once a week and it will last forever ($100 bucks or so)
    2) Buy new sintered pads ($45 for a pair)

Any new bike I would expect a few initial wear-in troubles like clutch needs adjusting etc.. I think anyone who expects a bike to be like a car is dreaming you have to know a little about maintenance or get your bike serviced regularly.

I highly recommend ordering one from Richard Jordan he will ship it to you in 3 days once payment clears get a few other maintenance bits while your at it

If you want any help installing it let me know though I'm sure you will find it pretty easy if you have a try getting the adjustment right is harder than installation really.

My bikes clutch cable snapped at 7-8K wife's did the same so now I have spares as unlike my previous bikes where you can "feel" it beggining to fray/wear out on the Hyos they tend to just snap even though you cant see any fraying wires during normal inspections.
