    07 Hyosung Comet

    Hey guys,

About a month ago I bought myself an 07 250 Comet and I absolutely loved it, until after taking the long way to Twizel and riding into St Bathans for a look at the lake the bike didn't want to start, whenever I pressed the starter button I could hear the relay going off which with my limited knowledge on electrical systems means that there isn't 12 volts being supplied so it wont send the power to the starter motor, we (my friend and I) thought that maybe there was just some dust on a contact somewhere and would give it a clean when we got to Twizel, anyway we kept on going and eventually ended up at the top of the Crown Range where after taking a look the bike started normally, but every other time after that it didn't. We eventually got into Twizel and gave it a clean but still no luck, so we tried trickle charging off a car for half an hour which seemed to fix it, started perfectly, got back to Christchurch fine but then the next day the same thing happened. I've been told to get the battery tested to see if a plate has collapsed which could be causing the problem, it's either that, a shorted wire or the Alternator isn't working

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before or has any ideas.

    Thank you

(and sorry about the long story)

Hey i had the same problem with my battery,

on my first day of riding it i turned it off had some lunch and went out again, but when i went back it didnt start. so for the mean time i just jump started it when i needed to.

i got a battery charger and charged it and it didnt hold its charge for more than two days. Went back to the dealer and they said try this new battery and its been good ever since then (5 months)

so yea the plates may have sulphated up and arent working properly. but a new batery sounds on the cards

Did you buy it from a dealer?

If so - take it back and ask them to make good the fault.

Hi there, and welcome to the site.

Did you purchase the bike from Norjo's? Good chaps there and I'm sure they set it right.

Also whats the factory warranty on the bike 2years? if so it is most likely covered if it is more serious than a battery.

Sadly no I didn't buy it from Norjos, I got it used from Street and Sport, the factory warranty is only 1 year I believe, I'll take it into the guys when they get back on the 5th, until then I have an update.

I just got back from a ride around Dyers Pass/Sumner the headlamp is very dull and whenever I brake it dimmed even more, also the indicators seemed dimmer and weren't the normal timing, could this also be because of the battery? all these things trying to take 12v out of a battery that's not producing it?

    Cheers

Id recommend a battery maximizer even if you need a new battery they are bloody handy things to have around. They differ slightly to the cheap car battery chargers you might be used to including having a digital display to give current amperage and volts repair charge options, overcharge protection and maintenance mode useful if your only a fair weather rider and the bike will spend a lot of time in the garage.

Sounds like your alternator isn't working. And if that's the case I'd be a bit hesitant on taking it too far from home.
Have you got access to a multimeter so you can test it?

Street & Sport are good guys so head there on Monday. I'm presuming it came with a 3 month warranty so you'll be fine. Ask then to check the charging system before throwing in a new battery. Make some diary notes on what's happened and when.

Righto Street and Sport just rang me, it seems there was a problem with the alternator, There was a 3 month Warranty that came with the bike so that saved me a few hundred and yeah should be picking it up tonight or tomorrow,

    Cheers for your advice everyone

I got her back today, running sweet, and the nice guys at Street and Sport even adjusted my clutch which was dragging and not letting me go into neutral with the engine running, I ended up buying myself a shiny new DriRider jacket to celebrate as well but alas I'm moving house this weekend so there
s no time for a decent ride, I'm just procrastinating writing this but I really don't want to pack up
