I guess it really depends on how much you've been riding lately as to how comfortable it is for you to do it.. It definitly can be done..
Also i'm not sure of how much traffic you're going to be in on the way back tomorrow..
Cheers Spazm, I hope you've had a good holiday also.

I've finally found a position that is confortable on the bike, and can go upto 3 hours before needing a stop. I was wondering about the traffic though, hopefully all the holiday makers have gone home today since the weather is so bad!

Has anyone done highway 45 from NP to Hawera (around the coast) ?

Yeah.. i have, but in a car in late autumn, Not a bad road, i have trouble remembering it because i took the forgotten highway back and that is such a great road (IMHO).

I heard about the Chateau to plateau run later this month along the forgotten highway, but then found out there is a section of unsealed road approx 15km long. That well and truly put me off!

nah mate .. its a shame .. the missus and I (and a few other ham riders) love that road.

I'm off camping up north with the fam for that entire week.

But I could be temtped for a "warm up" around whangamomona on the 17th / 18th

Good to know mate, must be pretty hard-packed to do 60 on a sports bike

I am planning to go down to taranaki this route mid february but i was warned about the gravel so i had decided to just do the run down and around the mountain and back up the main highway.

Brooke had mentioned that the road down there was wrought with road works, she said it would be slow going but manageable.

Anyways, i wish i could join you myself, got alot to do this weekend.

    Have a good ride!

fyi .. the road around the mountain is painfully boring, unless you're into excessive speed.

I did it at 140kph, and it was boring ... the map makes it looks more interesting than it is

Last time I did whangamomona after looping down thru NP and stratford, I head north from taumaranui (sh4) , and back up to ham (sh3)

it was a full day ... 7 hours or so.

Thanks man, my motivation for going around the mountain is thats my homeland I wonder if going around the other side of the mountain would be better for the bordom status.

Was planning to stay over the night on the way down in waitara or new plymouth. might just make it a there, stay and back for now.

Cheers for the advice TA. This is my first full day on the bike so I might give the full on roads a go another day. If you are going to Whangamomona on the 17/18th I would be keen to come along.

Hey Murray, Trina, Dave and Kryssie, it was great to see you in Taupo today. Dad came second in the last race and Mum was saying that he was only just passed and the end of the final lap and it was really close.

I hope you enjoyed the day. Thanks again for coming.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New year.
