    Central North Island road conditions

Well having done a few rides in the past week I thought I would put an update on kb as to the conditions of the roads that Ive been riding

NP to Te Kuiti has been cleaned up, or at least driven over enough that the roads are much better... no where near as much gravel as there was a month ago. It was even sweet today in the rain... get out there guys!

ALso from taumaranui through the forgotten highway to Stratford is in relatively good condition, only 12.6km of gravel which is hardpacked and very little loose gravel. THere are the usual few slips on the road but in general its all good!

have fun riding boys and girls!

I was riding through it at 50km with no problems at all. I can understand what you mean, as I am very protective of stones attacking my fairings, but seriously it was REALLY hard packed and very minimal loose stuff. You'll be sweet! However, do check it before blasting into it, as they can re-gravel it at any given time, and if it has just been done it is generally very deep and loose, and which stage i would personally turn back! haha

If your interested in doing it with others, there is the chateau to plateau auckland anniversary weekend (think its the 26th or that weekend on the sunday), and I am also organising a ride through for feb... its in the events section under north island "auckland/taranaki/central plateau weekend ride". You are more than welcome to meet us at taumaranui or whereever you feel like and come with us!

    Happy riding!
