I reckon Blackball would be but Shrek has another close-by location.

    Mapua sounds too trendy.

KB Rally - 2009. Suggestions as to where to hold it.

This thread is for ideas and/or suggestions for the location of the 2009 rally. Also for comments on the dates.

The first one was south, the second one was north, the third one was south. Where to next time.

So far they have all been the 2nd week of December. Is everyone still happy with that date, or should it be earlier?

I was going to suggest the Kopara logging village on the west coast.
Home of the Black Powder Gun club and a licenced old school private pub.
    BUT
Seeing as there are those amoung us who are challenged by the thought of riding on shingle roads...................

That puts that out of contention I guess

If people didn't mind the shingle it would be the perfect place. A magic wee spot

Yep, I reckon somewhere on the coast would be great. Shingle's fine, think of it as a challenge, and you've got whole year to practice if you feel the need. How much of it is there on the way to Kopara?

May I suggest Murchison ? Its got a great camp ground (the Riverview) which is on the banks of the Buller river, & a licensed Pizzeria at the campground, plus gas station, plus 2 other pubs all within walking distance

Just checked the topo map for shingle to Kopara and it looks like one section of 12.3km and one section of 5.2km, so 17.5km in total if the map is accurate.
