I use telecom cell phones for work and private, no problems except slow texting when services is busy. Some mates call me within Auck on their vodaphone phone and they are always dropping calls. On ihug (vodaphone) for web service... very average service but customer support is crap!!

When you first setup your voice mail it refers to it being telecom.
Well, not entirely true, doubtless you were talking to some CS lackey who actually doesn't have the foggiest what their network consists of, but as far as mobile goes, then yes, that portion isn't TCL's.

They have their own fibre optic network around almost the entire country and throughout most decent sized CBD's, which was quite extensive when I left and that was almost six years ago. I imagine it's grown a fair amount since. So, as far as selling "network" the only part that isn't their's is the mobile coverage, i.e. from the tower to you, once the signal hits a tower it will switch to landline and be carried through their own network (where possible) then back out through a TNZ tower.

so after yesterdays hour+ phone call to sort out my bill i get an email saying its all good and to view it on line now. So i view it on line and they had credited my account so all is good, then i see they have stared to charge me wrongly over the last two days so back on the phone just now and the person today told me they just credited my account and didn't fix the problem. she sorted it out in under 10mins and gave me an xtra 20 any time mins for my trouble!!

So i think alot of it depends on who answers your calls, your business is only as good as those who work for you!!

Sorry I read from the op and question it was mobile services, I forget that Vodafone had entered the landline market, and was only referring to that section.

Yet they resell ADSL via Telecom, thanks to local loop unbundling, they never laid their cable network in the Auckland region which they had resource consents for, they were on of the primary partitioner's for local loop unbundling, as it immediately gave them access to a number of customers. I know how good their network is, when it is on their network.

I'm definatley in 'They Are Both Crap' camp I'm afraid, get right up my hooter for various reasons, far too complicated to rant on here.

I do, though, have a great story to tell about the Vodafone call centre in the Uk that I had to ring once. Goes something like this...(this is true by the way, happened 10 years ago)..anyway...

FM: Hi there, need to talk to someone regarding my account
    VP: Achoo.....how can I....achoo...help you...achoo...sorry
FM: Sound a bit sneezy there (this is a chick by the way)
    VP: Achoo....sorry, I dot a dold....achoo....achoo....
FM: Anyway, blah blah blah (my query, cant remember the details)
    VP: Ok, let me...achoo...check....achoo....achoo...achoo..ACHO O!!!!.....
    FM: You ok there?
    VP: Sorry...achoo...sir, can you please......achooo...oh no....call back...oh my god!

Phone goes dead like they have cut me off but I can still hear talking. Honest to betsy, the next thing I hear is two chicks talking like this:

'Sharon, can you cover my station...(mumbled reply)....yeah, look I've got to go to the loo, I've been sneezing so much I think I've shit myself.....'

As you can imagine, I burst out laughing, the chick has heard me, screamed and the next thing I know the phone is definatley dead....

I still laugh about this now......careful when you sneeze out there all....

I left telecom due to poor customer service. I bought an $800 phone and over the course of a year it's froze on me for up to 5 days at time but i've always been out of town when it happens. Of course whenever I go to the telecom shop they say 'come back next time it does it again' but was never offered any possibly options to remedy the problem.

The last time it happened I was down at Wanganui, got back to Auckland the night of the 29th. Went to the shop on the 30th with a fucked phone and asked what they could do... "nothing" your warranty ended two days ago. Bollocks service if you ask me, i would have had to pay $180 to get it checked out regardless of whether they could fix it - i'm 99% sure its a software problem but they kept throwing the 'moisture damage' line at me so I though fuck em.

Now im with vodafone and have only just come to the realisation that its only good to be with vodafone if all my friends are too, and with an almost 50/50 split of TC/VF numbers in my contact list it's now going to be more expensive on vodafone!

Telstra phones are on Telecom's network, aren't they?

Vodafone has all sorts of advantages. Video calls, data speeds worth talking about, UMTS900 being rolled out around the country, the ability to roam abroad.. etc.
Telecom say they'll be doing this sometime this year.. or was it last November.. who can say? Don't they also claim slightly higher data speeds than Vodafone? The sort of speeds they'll need at least three years to roll out the backhaul for..
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Thanks Ed, if you can talk to those higher up and perhaps suggest that the decision to resell Telecom services was not the best idea in regards to mobile, the phones suck, I know it not just my phone as we have two we are stuck with for the next 20 months or so, we had better coverage from our Vodafone equipment whilst travelling the lower south island.
