    Adventure Bike Rally

On the 27th and 28th Feb I have booked the Lodge near Mavora Lakes for an Adventure Bikers Rally , There is 20 sleeping places in bunks , plus camping. If you want a bed contact me and send me $20 and you will get 1. First 10 confirmed get bottom beds. The Borland road is open to the south arm of Manapouri , Plenty of water in Lake Wakatipu so we will get bikes on Earnslaw , Milford Sound and Nevis Roads are other attractions. Have a look at this http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355983 We have 1 rider from Alaska confirmed , Frier Mike is his name and he arrives in NZ on 4th Feb touring NZ on one of my DRsix fiddys , He enjoys trout fishing so if u have a favorite river he might be interested in joining u . Cheers Toddy

Shoot over for the friday night

I'm up for a ride up to the Forks Hut on the Friday arvo if the river crossing is do-able - who's keen for a bit of hard stuff?

    Cheers

Nah, mines the 640 Enduro, smaller tank & no fairing, but otherwise pretty similar to the 640 Adv. That's a good run out of the 'ol DR, has it had any engine work?

If you carry on up past the Mavora Lakes & turn left over the river there is a 4x4 track up the valley to the Forks hut (I think it was called the Forks hut anyway). I've only been part way there so I'm not sure how easy it is but I'm keen for a look. Are you going to be down for the rally?

    Cheers

Unfortunately we have a wedding on the weekend of the Rally so we want to leave for the Sth Isl the following weekend. We went up past Mavora Lakes a few years ago. Theres one hut at top of the Lake if I remember correctly. We the carried on further up to Boundary Hut. I believe this is as far as you are allowed to go by 4x4 or bike

Ah, well, have fun! Carey's Hut is the first one on the side of the North Mavora Lake, Boundary hut is up the right hand valley off the end of the lake & is the end of the line in that direction, but there is a 4x4 track going over the river before you get to Boundary Hut & up the left valley for a fair way.

    Cheers

    Adv Bike Rally

Got home last night after 5 days & 1,500 km's on the Freewind. Great mix of roads, gravel & farm tracks. Even managed to include work calls on the way down & back. First night at Ranfurley then met up with arrowrider at Cromwell on his DR750 Big. Hadn't met Murray before the ride but top bloke & he has two dream jobs - driving Shotover Jet tour boats & flying helicopters.
Anyway we hit the Nevis after lunch & what a fantastic track. If you want to dawdle there is heaps of interesting gold mining history to check out. Otherwise just nail it but there are always suicidal merinos to watch out for plus the 20 odd water crossings in 24 km's to navigate.
