The savings in rubber on the Ninja (compared to the R6) would be about $750 per year alone....

yep, there sure is nothing like keeping close behind your mates on 600 and upwards capacity machines over the whole of the coromandel and only losing a few mm off your $200 rear tyre while they have completely destroyed a $500 rear that has been fitted for all of a week

yet a 400 still offers 250 economy with enough power to safely pass traffic and isn't overpriced by the learner demand for a 250 (thinking more the cbr/zxr here)

it just seems like the natural step up from a 45hp 'slow' bike is to a 59hp reasonable bike that still keeps up where it counts without costing a 120hp fortune to run or being unwieldy and cumbersome in traffic and too fast to be properly used legally/safely on a road

(ok, what i set out to say was that the running costs of a 400 are only marginally higher than that of a 250 while still being significantly lower than running a 600. the 400 is cheaper cheaper if you factor the depreciation on buying a new/newish ninja vs a 2nd hand vfr400... in fact the vfr is often cheaper to buy too.... the only advantage of the ninja is it is new and not a hyosung, but a good vfr is not hard to find especially if you look to import from the japanese market)

I was given a ninja 250 loaner yesterday while my bike was being serviced.

    What. A. Piece. Of. Junk.

Cheap, vibrating, GUTLESS, uncomfortable, pseudo sportsbike shit box and expensive to boot..................Honda VTR's are in a completely different league [apart from the lack of power]

Grow up. Its a shit box 250, anybody who has owned or ridden anything over 600cc would'nt piss on your shitter.

It exists for no other reason but to get you a REAL licence so you buy a REAL bike......as a commuter it is expensive and would soon become tiresome.

Squids such as yourself need to get real [that fuckwit with the 'modified shit box hyobag is measurably worse], pretend you're fucking a fat chick. buy the shitbox 250, get a licence AND TELL NO ONE

As for me, I look forward to the day that my abilities outperform the bike and i can get a bigger one, but for the next 2 years or so i believe that my 250r will be able to handle anything i throw at it and then some. I might even keep it after that cos it is damn sexy and fun in the twisties!

Its like driving cars (quick story) i could outdrive my mates 2L GTS Skyline in my little Suzuki Swift which is a 1.3L carby, the only place he would beat me is over 110kmph.

Try to learn as much as you can on your 250 as im sure you would be surprised what some of them can do
i was watching a guy i know who comes out on thursday nights rides struggle to pass a truck up a hill, he really was revving it out to get past, hes decided he need more grunt, poor wee 08 ninja almost became ninja soup

plastic fabricator/welder here if you need a hand ! will work for beer/bourbon/booze

i got followed by one today. i was out running it on my slower than wet week spada, he also almost went splat passing a truck, i did it safely and he followed. i stoped passing people after that, i wasnt going to lead him into trouble by "making him try race me"
what a crotch stain. and fuck they are slow

SPB, compared to your K6, yeap they are bloody slow, even compared to the older 250s like ZXR etc, bloody japan and their power restriciton laws. But for those of us that have them and are new to bikes, they are certainly fast enough for the time being. If i could afford it i would get a 600 but im not there yet. Just like everybody else on here we are all entitled to our own opinion. You dont like the new Ninjas, i do

Depends what speed he was doing, they can be gutless if u arent riding them right as i found. They lack in the 120kmph-150kmph zone due to it being a 250. They gotta be in 5th for hills at over 100kmph. Its a real happy machine at 9-12500rpm. You cant just twist the throttle and go, it takes a bit of work to ride properly.

If i could afford to keep the Ninja after 2 years and get a 600cc i would, they are great for zipping round the central city and the running costs are much lower. However that probably wont happen and it will end up going to another newbie.

Well said Howsie....kinda hard for my excessively dry humour to come out on the Internet [I was of course taking the piss and waiting for a bite!]. For a first bike you guys will collectively be in heaven
