Thank you Mr Nuts, I haven't had so much fun dancing in ages. Great band, although I have nothing to compare them with as far as rally bands go.

Btw - I couldn't quite work out what had been photoshopped on your jacket (must need stronger glasses) in the Danseys Pass pic - could you please enlighten me.

I'm another one who thought the band was really great. The singers were in tune and you could hear them over the backing. The instrumentalists played the notes correctly and didn't just strum the same chords over and over.

OK, the choice of songs could have been improved a little. A bit more Pink Floyd and Bruce Springstien would have been appreciated. But I would love to hear more of them. A genuine 12 piece band who could play is a rarity at a bike rally.

As a musican myself I agree, they were in tune, they weren't just going through the motions (strumming the same chords over and over) They were having fun up on stage. BUT... yes mix it up a little more... to keep every one happy.

Being there first bike rally they will be still finding there feet, what does the crowd want and what can they play to meet that. But also still mixing it up.

As you said a genuine 12 piece band who could play AND be in tune is a rarity not just a bike rally but anywhere.

Its what YOU make of it as well, it was a nice change. If you just want to hear the same old songs over and and over good on yah. but that gets just as boring...

I will all so say I liked the band the first night and there was a lot of people swing their hips and seemed to be having fun and enjoying the band.

The second night was a repeat, which I can under stand as they would have to learn a hell of a lot of songs for two nights.

After all most songs only last 3 to 4 minutes and if you are playing for a night of 4 hours plus, that is a lot of song be fore you start to repeat your self's.
The down side to having the same band two nights in a row I guess.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

I agree with you guys about their talent. What they played they played really well, especially the guy doing the Joe Cocker songs. He did those Really Reallly Reeeaaallllyy well.

With regards to their song choice I found out later (from a bronze committee member) that they actually had a much larger playlist which they brought with them to choose from. This actually had the kind of songs in it that were better suited to a bike rally. Clearly they chose not to play them except for the handfull of songs at the end of Saturday night. That was after said songlist was seen (by aforementioned bronze member) and suggested that they play those better suited songs....

I think you might have found the Lee Stream-Rocklands section the easiest had you carried on through.

On the way up I went that way. Windy but easy over Lee Stream through to Middlemarch. It was Middlemarch to Hyde that was the worst/most dangerous. Was lucky not to come to grief but figured once I got past the mountain I'd be right so I rode it out (as well as you can ride in that crap!!).

It was still a little windy from Hyde to Kyeburn but nothing compared to what came before. Not even as bad as Kyeburn to Ranfurly come to think of it....

Yes, we were there dancing like mad dancing things on the Friday night and I was a tiny bit disappointed that the playlist was very similar on the Saturday night. I think the band did very well and even acknowledged that some of the crowd didn't like their music in a good way.

I heard a Bronz committee member saying that they were thinking of getting an Irish Band for the Friday night next year.

I guess if we give Bronz Otago feedback then they'll know what ppl want - I've sent them an email raving about the rally and giving them some feedback about things it would have been handy to know (as a rally virgin), i.e. that the alcohol for sale at the rally site was competitively priced and that we could have got cash via Eft Pos at the gate - would've saved us a trip back into Alexandra.

I was at a party last night and Soul Deep were playing there for 2 hours, and they actually played different music from the rally which suited the crowd, even got them up dancing very early in there sets. Far better choice, Unfortunately I never made it past midnight on the Saturday of the Vincent, b*ggered myself on the Friday night. But wish I did now. Apologizes for the quick remarks earlier.
Now an Irish band..... sounds interesting

Certainly they were a talented and excellent band, I simply felt they were in the wrong place. It's not rocket science to know what a biker group is going to enjoy. It doesn't have to be heavy metal, but mainstream rock works, plus a bit of psychedelia such as Pink Floyd.

Still, must say it was impressive to see a 12 piece band.
