    Thanks for having us

Amazing trip you lot, thanks for having me and Pete along for the Saturday morning. I’ve been meaning to get back around the Coast for quite some time and $15 was a bit of a bargain for a day of such good fun, although in hindsight (always a good thing) taking the XT250 might have been a wiser move.

Plenty of people turned up at Wainuiomata.

We stopped to wait at the homestead, sort of hoping Mark S could fix his KLR (and pay the dosh).

    We waited…..

    Chatting …….

    Talking bikes ……..

But then just had to head off …………….

    Photo stop …………

For those that don’t know, this coastline has been formed by a number of earthquakes. The area is steeped in history; you go past ‘Barney’s Whare’ – once home to late reclusive maritime painter Frank Barnes. This coast was also the migrational route for early Maori, and the traditional muster route for early New Zealand pioneers. Magic views of Cook Strait, the Kaikoura Mountain Ranges and Wairarapa Coast pretty much all the way.

It started to get a bit tougher ……………

    Wait, there's more.

Ummm, ran out of road ……………

A bit of a push and we’re all safely through ………….

    It got easier …………….

    Until …………

Some resorted to the bush to find a way around.

Others tackled it head on ………….

    and last bit.

    ….building a road!!

Either route, everyone got over this as well. GVB shows some style. Just great how everyone was helping each other out. What a team.

After all that lot, a poxy wee gate isn’t getting in the way.

From there, it’s coasting. Fantastic views and a few braided river crossings.

Pete and I left the boys to it in Martinborough wishing them good luck with the Makiro track the next day.

Agreed, we should organise a SI assult on the "other" island some time before the end of May. I'm keen for some time the end of March on. 42 Traverse, Fishers, Makiro ???? Time to put the thinking cap on.

Hmmm wonder what our plans are for easter?

    Cheers R

with some careful planning you can get from Wellington to the Fishers/42nd area with lots of interesting back roads/gravel and minimal boring main rds. There is some simply stunning scenery/roads between Wgtn and Taupo if you stray from the beaten track.

Hi Fran - the shot had me bemused to - looks like I'm trying to retrieve the drinking pipe of the Camelbak - certainly looks contorted

My back is reminding me to bend at the knees. My old body is feeling the affects of all of the lifting, pushing and pulling of bikes

Thumbs up big ups for Junkman Joe

Top man that Joe - helped me pick myself and bike up once on Saturday and twice on the Makairo - once where I had the front wheel of the DR down the bank.

Thanks Joe to you and our wife for the hospitality on the way home.

Look fwd to riding with you again - cheers Aslan

Good to see you're home Joe. How's that yellow, shitbox, oil leaking, piece of crap of mine.

If I'd got as far as that ravine thing on Saturday, you could have used it for a bridge.

Cheers for picking it up for me.

Anyone want to buy a mint, K6 DRZ400. One careful owner. Never been thrashed.

Thanks to the organisers for a couple of great days out. Lucky I have a desk job time to get over all the aches and pains. I learn't a few more leasons on how to and how not to ride my bike and thanks to the pushers and picker uppers for there help. Without this one would not be able to go off the black stuff. How boring, this is much more fun makes you fell alive and to the new people I meet and previous ride people see you out there again soon.
Thanks to the Camera Crews for the photos so we can all relive the ride for days to come.
    Regards boGSer

I'm listening. Sounds like more good stuff for the web site Maybe we should take this over to the other thread so as not to spoil the vib on this one.
