Parking fines, please need guidance

Yesterday in christchurch I got pinged $460.00 total for three fines - no wof notice, no reg notice and parked on broken yellow lines. Now - is it wrong to have wof and reg under the seat, as last time I checked it was acceptable and its the wof inspector that stuck it there. Also if parked at the end of a row of cars, it is not outside the said carpark is it, if on the white park line. I have written a two page letter of greivance to the council this morning and issued notice of the fines not being lifted, me taking them to court (mediation or a tribunal). Am I doing everything correct? Happened yesterday.

How is the council worker ... or police or anyone meant to see your WOF and Reg is you don't have them displayed. You will win as you had them ... but under the seat seems to be a damn stupid place for them ... as legally they have to be on display. Issuing notice to go to court seems rather silly ... all you have to do is evidence the fact that you have them and they will be waived ... this can not be done in a letter .. cos why would they believe you.

Give your council a call ... the call centre staff should be able to help or put you through to someone who can help you as to how to deal with this.

This subject was looked into I think by Fairgo or some programe like that..

Putting them under the seat is real dumb as as stated they are suppose to be visable and easily seen

And on display they weren't. The tickets will be for failing to display current vehicle licence and failing to display current evidence of inspection.

As for the parking infringement, hope you got a photo.

The problem is they normally let you off once you get it ... so there is a good chance ..

I got sent a 1st reminder over 3 months later to pay a parking ticket but did not remember even getting the ticket... when I queried the time frame they said tough luck we can do it when we want

How is that a problem? He claims he had them and admits they were not on display. He was ticketed for that, just as would any vehicle be.

Councils will rarely cancel the infringement notice because it is easy direct income for them. Police however are more interested in compliance (in the event your evidence of inspection and vehicle licences had lapsed, which the OP claims they hadn't anyway) and will, at the issuing officers discretion, permit a period in which if you bring the vehicle into compliance they will cancel the original infringement offence notice.

Ummm in a WoF holder. I usually bolt it to the registration plate, if I display it at all.

Clearly displayed on rear end of the bike!

On some bikes it is not so easy to comply.

maybe time to invest in a couple of holders and screw thm to back of number plate...even if half covered in road shit ,they are still classed as been displayed...however as the rest have said...you should get off turn up even with bike and show where testing station have fitted them...but let them know you are changing their postion to the outside of bodyframe

on my daytona I have both on the rear but wife's cbr has rego on rear and wof on screen

Years ago when I did my test, the MOT cop walked around my bike and said, you dont have a WOF, yes I do, it is under the seat see? Oh, OK then off we go. Currently my WOF is displayed behind my number plate, but my rego is in my riding pants pocket

The old rego was stuck to the rear guard, on the paint! I peeled it off when I went to replace it. New rego is one that needs a holder, I dont have one, so for now the holder is my pocket. I guess one day I should go and get it sorted properly.

Unlike cars, there are no prescribed positions for their display on motorcycles.

On the "failure to display" infringements, you're dead to rights as far as I can see (you weren't displaying them), so the only options worth pursuing are: take it on the chin; or grovel.

The parking on yellow lines thing might be worth a fight. Come on, mate, do it for the benefit of your fellow bikers! I'll be cheering you on all the way.

On my daytona i have both on the rear but wife's cbr has rego on rear and wof on screen

no motorcycles have windscreens, we have wind deflectors and there is no legal requirement to display them on the deflector.
