I'm keen to go to this too. Driving a blue/silver RVR with probably 3 bikes on a trailer, but no KB flag!

Mainly medium/fast pace, bulldozer-blade width tracks through bush/scrub and some open farm. The bush sections are long and excellent, just watch out for the odd sudden tight turn. A few get caught out and end up over a bank.

It's pretty hilly and at one point you pop out of the bush and you're high above the sea out on the cliffs (good photo op). No real danger of any accidental seaward excursions though, so kids OK. Might pay to stop/take it easy here on first loop if distracted by view (I was). Hip-high wind packed scrub on seaward side pretty cool to ride through.

The steepest downhill sections are options off main route. They are quite steep and long but only semi-gnarly in places, no real prob for confident intermediate and up (in the dry at least).

If dry, dust is the standard deal with this ride due to the fast-ish wide tracks. (Obviously be a bit different if the rain forecast is correct). I'm thinking even if wet, parched ground could soak up a fair bit.

    Is this your favourite question?

Just taking the piss, fear not.....

I had a think about this ride; I did it last year and I think it was the first trail / off road ride I had done (35 years of road only..), I rode all the A loops so am sure it is quite manageable to everyone. I recall it being steep and managing to flip the bike a few times but I would put that down to incompetence rather than a really tough track.

Rain...it's bound to be a bit muddy / slippery if wet but the rain is forecast for friday and that gives you almost 2 days for it to dry out, I'm sure it will be fine.

It is a neat ride, varied terrain and great views so go out there and enjoy it...if I wasn't going to be out of town I would be there.

    Yep just got the email

    PORT WAIKATO TRAIL RIDE CANCELLED

SATURDAY 21ST Feb - the quad only ride is CANCELLED

SUNDAY 22ND FEB - The Family Trail Ride is CANCELLED

the weather has made the tracks slushy so bikes and quads will do too much damage plus the creek we cross twice is not a raging torrent - we have rescheduled these two rides for the 18/19 April
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

Oh bugger, I was really looking forward to trying out my new bike. And they reckon the weather will improve tomorrow. With 20knot Northerly winds blowing over the hills it should dry up the surface only wet in no time. The farmers piked out too soon.

Oh well at least I'll finally get to meet cheese at sandy woodhill and show him how to start up a bike.
